Ikea gravy, chips n peas?

I normally have them in a tomato sauce with pasta though in a spaghetti and meatballs stylee. I'm sure you can have them with pretty much everything though, I love swedish meatballs!!

Yes -- my usual way of serving meatballs is to have them in pasta with tomato sauce but wasn't sure Swedish meatballs were best served in this fashion.

I thought the store served them as such - is it just normalish gravy ? Although can't imagine chips and gravy - not a good combination in my opinion ... Is there any normal high street equivalent of lingonberry jam (cranberry ?) ?

I think mashed potato and lingonberry sauce would be the most authentic. Never thought about having them in tomato sauce, but I will now! I love the fact they are always gluten free. I don't know why this is, but it is so. Anywhere you can buy them (well, Waitrose and Sainsbugs anyway!) gluten free. Yay!

ooh look what I found - ok not a british gravy.. more of a sauce. Might give that a go.

how to make the cream sauce:
ingredients:

100ml cream
200ml beef stock
chinese soya sauce
1 tbsp white flour
salt, white pepper

Any thoughts on the similarities of cranberry to lingonberry ?

If you also picked up some Ikea Gradd sauce, you are in luck! Any mild brown sauce is great, even a mild pepper sauce.
Personally dont like gravy.

Cranberries, new potatoes, and some veg, i usually have peas, carrots and sweetcorn.

Oh.... and if you crush some juniper berries in the sauce, add some allspice, then it is more "gamey", and you can boil some prunes and dried apricots to have as a side dish.

Red cabbage with apple pieces works too.

hungry

wheeliebug, that sounds like a good sauce. Lingonberries and cranberries are quite similar.

Also, you can melt butter in a large frying pan, add flour and stir with a fork, flat side down, add a beef stock cube, season with salt and pepper, and when the flour and butter mix (with the stock cube) is very dark in colour, add some water, and let it boil a few minutes, you will have a thick and tasty brown sauce.

we usually have them with lingonberry, that ikea gravy stuff, onion relish or ketchup

(plus mash or boilies and veg)

iom08 · 06/03/2008 10:37

I cook them in a sauce made from creme fraiche, dill, 1/2 tsp tomato puree and seasoning to taste. cook in casserole dish with lid on in the oven for about 1/2 hour and serve with mashed potato...yum

wheelybug · 06/03/2008 18:47

Sorry meant to report back (TheBlonde - I thought you might find your way onto this thread ).

We had them last night with mini roasties (teeny weeny cube potatoes roasted so a cross between roasties and chips), veg and peppercorn sauce. I think DH had decided not to like it before he ate it and he said they were a 'bit processed' (really ? ). But having said that, he cleared his plate.

We still have a huge bagfull left so he'll have to get used to them !

I'd say leave them in the fridge. I did the same rash thing once and they taste as if they've been cooked with about a hundredweight of salt.

TheBlonde · 06/03/2008 19:04

hey wheely
you can make your own (MIL does)
We just buy the ones in Sainsburys
