Started reasonably well with an omelette but milk in my tea (is that allowed)?

Im veggie and love bread and pasta, so not sure how that will work!

Have a look at recipes from the Fast800 books - there is 3 books.

They recommend fasting 16:8 but you don’t have to, but if you do then a splash of milk is fine (make sure you calorie count if you are doing that).

Some ideas of what I eat are:
-Instead of bread make an egg wrap and fill it with a protein food and chopped tomato, lettuce, cheese etc then roll up. I would choose ham but as you are veggie I’m not sure what you could use instead
-Greek yoghurt (the high protein/low carb ones) with berries and a few chopped walnuts
-Quiches (no pastry) - the above recipe books have a few veggie quiches
-Shakshuka
-Cloud ‘bread’ - make yourself
-A ploughman’s-style lunch with salad items, boiled eggs, beetroot, houmous etc
-a pasta replacement idea is courgette sliced into ribbons (buy already done or use a spiraliser)

There’s low carb section on MN with all recipes that you might find handy.

Georgyporky · 04/09/2023 18:29

"Low carb" does not mean "no carb".
I spiralise courgettes to add to a small amount of spaghetti.
Frittata is a good option for a main meal;some people call it a "crustless quiche" !

We're trying too but just back from holiday with no food in so had nuggets with veg- not feeling very proud of our first meal but it's a start!! Aiming for no carbs after lunchtime so it's hopefully more achievable

greenspaces4peace · 04/09/2023 19:00

i started fast 800 on wednesday (no clue why that day was when the urge to start hit me).
so low carb and 16-8.
so far so good and down a tiny bit is equally nice.

AdoraBell · 04/09/2023 19:01

I’m trying to, seriously need inspiration though so I’ll
lurk for a while if that’s okay?

Lunch today was sausages with sautéed mushrooms.

Also, just back from a week in Italy and DD1 said “you do realise you’re going to the land of carbs”

BabyStopCryin · 04/09/2023 19:16

I’m missing fruit - l love fruit!

I made a quick cheese on kettle for breakfast yesterday. It was not bad (I’m not brilliant at omelettes) but very filling.

I snapped today and had a large piece millionaires shortbread as I was in a lot of pain and feeling sorry for myself.

Omelette, not on kettle!

Yes eggs are your friends as is dairy and nuts.

Meal ideas

Roast veg kebabs with tzatsiki and salad with feta.

Tomato Couliflour rice (fried onion and cherry tomato and tom puree plus garlic.
couliflor rice cooked in the mix with a little water. Serve with cheese melted over.

Make your own sagg paneer and serve with a small amount of veggie curry for the sauce.

BabyStopCryin · 04/09/2023 19:35

What’s a good brekkie to take to work? I took a small pot of porridge and had it with yoghurt and seeds - then realised that porridge isn’t brilliant!

Just take Yoghurt with a few raspberries

Or i used to make a great granola that was entirely nuts and seeds. Peanut butter as a base, coconut flakes, cocoa nibs, ground almonds etc etc. I'm sure you can find a recipe. Only eat a small amount or add to yogurt.

BabyStopCryin · 04/09/2023 19:40

Good - I love yogurts with berries and seeds!

Greek or Greek style natural is best. Find one with the highest fat content. Sainsburies do their own Greek style with 10% fat which i use.

BabyStopCryin · 04/09/2023 20:44

What’s with the fat content? I always have low/no fat yoghurt (we eat a lot of yoghurt).

greenspaces4peace · 04/09/2023 21:15

fat helps keep you satiated longer, the chemicals used for the fat substitution are not helpful to the process and not helpful to your body.

BabyStopCryin · 04/09/2023 21:43

Ahhhh, ohhhh.

This is not easy! When you are a bread/pasta/rice fiend it makes it hard

had cauliflower and broccoli cheese last night. Lovely but I miss apples and bananas.

I guess it’s a case of getting used to it?
