Toasties / Pannini makers

DS(11) is ramping up the snacking so I'm thinking about getting a toastie maker or similar so he can crack on with something vaguely healthy and filling.

Any tips?? Have they moved on since the triangular pockets of hot lava I remember Grin and should I look for something multipurpose perhaps?! George Forman - is he still a thing in the world of grills?!

We have one with interchangeable plates so you can do old school sealed triangles and things like panini's and wraps.

Toasties , filled wraps work really well in an air fryer

We use the air fryer. The kids love them cos they don't get that hard edge like in a sandwich toaster

We have a flat plate toastie maker. Takes 2 sandwiches side by side, or one panino. Really good. Really easy to clean with it being flat. (And if you overfill the cheese you get that crispy bit)

We use our panini press quite a bit, usually for ham & cheese toasties. I also use it to cook the occasional meat free bacon sandwich as I can cook the rashers on the press.

It’s really easy to clean too - no grooves for food to get burnt in to.

Get a panini press. You just put bread and fillings in no butter or spread.

something vaguely healthy and filling

maybe I'm doing toasties wrong but they are in no way vaguely healthy!! I like mine with white bread, plenty of cheese, and buttered outside of the bread so it has that delectable golden crispiness - and I don't think I could compromise on any of that even if I did add some meat for protein or veg such as tomatoes/mushrooms. We have a Breville one which does make fabulously delicious toasties, the traditional triangular pockets and the plates can pop out for easy cleaning.

my dc have microwave ones.
we have a household rule that they need to add something from the veg drawer or fruit bowl.

nutella & banana are a favourite.

They sound amazing! DS is very slight so the more fat and protein that can enter his system via the medium of melted cheese the better 😁😁

I have considered an air fryer but that's a huge investment vs a press / toastie maker plus we don't have much counter space so think I'd prefer something that can be put away.

I'm off to google changeable plates that sounds ideal
