Just bought a sesame desert called sesame Halva - it is absolutely divine and pretty healthy . Anyone else tried it and love it or is it just me?

Baklava is also delicious and tbh I know the amount of sugar isn't particularly healthy but it is much healthier than - for example - wine gums!

But I also really like nuts and seeds and they like me so - for me and eaten in moderation - it is relatively healthy.

Thanks for the info everyone - as ever Mumsnet is fab :)

I absolutely ADORE halva.

Tahini is just crushed sesame. All halva is made with sesame/tahini. It is the main ingredient. The other sort is halwa, which is not made with sesame. I think halVa is Arab, whereas halWa is Indian. I think.

Halva is sort of vaguely healthy. Sesame is rich in fibre, protein, calcium and other micro-nutrients. Unfortunately the other main ingredient is sugar!

You can have halva made with any type of oil rich seed, sunflower for example, not only sesame.

It's absolutely delicious OP but the ingredients are the very calorific tehina and sugar! That's it. Its basically a sweet.

Think I ate a small rib a day when I was PG with DC2. It's a wonder I wasn't the size of a house Grin
