Apple Tree haul

Hi everyone,
There is a local lady who offers apples from the tree in her garden to anyone who could collect them. I thought, great! I love a freebie and would definitely use apples for making crumbles and pies with the kids. I used to just buy crumbles but found they’ve went up in price considerably and there’s not much filling in them anyway!
So off we set this morning and collected about 20 apples from the ground under her tree.
Now I’m wondering how to wash them before peeling and cooking (or freezing for later). I wouldn’t want to find any hidden nasties inside them as they’ve been on the ground for a few days maybe.
I remember seeing a post about soaking strawberries in salt water to draw out worms/maggots etc. Does that work and could I do the same with apples?
Thanks everyone!

You will see any worms in an apple when you peel and cut them, and you can then just cut all the damaged bits off. They are quite a bit larger than the little maggots you get on soft fruit.
