Berries and mould?

If a couple of berries in a punnet are mouldy but the rest look fine do you still eat them or throw the whole punnet out? Does your answer change if it’s for a baby or toddler?

I'd chuck them posters will come and tell you it's food waste etc but mold can make you ill and you don't want to take that chance with young children..

No I would continue to eat the ones that looked fine - and same for giving to children too

dementedpixie · 04/08/2023 08:16

I would remove mouldy ones and wash and eat the rest whether it's me or my child.

I remove the mouldy ones and any ones touching them. Wash and eat the rest.

I only discovered this summer how to stop berries going mouldy:
Wash berries in a bowl of water with a good slug of vinegar. Leave to soak for 10 minutes or so. Fish out, rinse and pat dry. Pop into lidded container or plastic bag lined with kitchen roll. Seal and put in fridge. They last for ages!
(change the kitchen roll every day or so)

I would pick them out and eat the rest. You could always cook the rest if you were still nervous about mould.
