Can I make choc mousse in one big bowl?

Hello wise Mumsnetters. I'm having 12 people for supper and I only have six ramekins. I want to make Saint Delia's choc mousse recipe, which directs me to decant into aforementioned ramekins. Can I :

  1. double up the recipe with no problem?
  2. Chill and serve this doubled-up mousse in one large bowl?

Would be very grateful for advice. I don't want to end up with a bowl of chocolate soup!

It will be less fluffy in the bottom/middle of a big bowl.
You'd have more luck with something shallower like a gratin dish.

Doubling will be fine as long as you have an efficient folding technique so you don't flatten it.

Could you do it in a muffin tin with oiled cupcake cases, and invert the set mousses onto plates to serve?

I've made chocolate mousse in a big bowl before and it was fine. No idea what recipe I used though.

Buy (if you don't already have) two sets of 6 glasses, like whisky tumblers? You can pick them up cheaply in supermarkets & they'll get subsequent use in a way 12 ramekins won't!

I'd definitely use glasses, as above poster says.
I know it tastes the same out of a big dish, but it looks so much nicer as an individual portion

I'd do it one bowl but a really fancy one and make it look pretty...maybe topped with raspberries, dusted cocoa powder, mint leaves...then take to the table and serve up there.

I’ve had that recipe plenty of times out of a big bowl - I know it looks pretty to serve in little dishes but I just love the luxuriousness of a whole massive bowl of the stuff! And people can have less or more if they want. Serve with raspberries and whipped cream. Mmmm. And it didn’t get squashed in the middle at all.

I bought cheap wine glasses from Dunelm and served choc mousse in them. Think they were 90p or £1 each and were surprisingly thick glass.

It was a deep bowl - but I’m sure it would work fine in either.

I have done this many times and it doesn't matter what kind of bowl it is as long as you fold it carefully.

Plopping it in one big bowl is very Nigella.

It's one of my favourite desserts to make.
