So how would you pronounce it?

I have always thought that the sausage Chorizo was spanish and should be pronounced Chori-tho (as in Ibiza) but I heard on the telly yestrerday someone calling it Chori-tzo, as in the italian way (as in Pizza) and a friend calls it Choreeesso. What do you think??

Same friend calls Ciabatta - Kie-a-batter. So she's not an authority...

I'd say if you're not happy saying cho-rith-o, then just say chorizo using the normal English Z sound. The tz thing is some weird half-Italian approximation of a Spanish word.

That's probably where I first heard it - growing up in Manchester in the 70s people would have thought you were soft in the head if you'd said noooo-gaaaar.

noogaah...well...I never would have thought anyone calling a nugget a noogaah...I would have presumed they talk about Nougat (Hazelnut Praline....)

So would you refer to Paris as "Pareee"? Or Barcelona as "Barthelona"?

Why do foods matter while places can be adapted to suit the first language of the speaker? Is it just ponciness, or is it more interesting than that?
