Help, My stew tast disguisting!

I have followed a recipe from Tanya Ramsays book for stew and dumplings. I have just had a little tast and it is horrible.

How can I salvage it and turn it into something yummy. The liquid just tastes of olive oil.

Help what can I add

Add some bread to mop up some of the oil and then add something like bisto as custaro said. Remember to take the bread out before you add the bisto!

If there is a lot of oil floating on top, dry gently placing a slice of bread on the top and see if it will soak some of the oil up.
As for extra flavourings depends on the type of stew, but wine or some worcester sauce or a sharp tasting flavour will cut through an oily one best

oh thanks ladies, i have added some red wine and also some tomato puree. If that fails will add some bisto.

Think you are right about putting the book in the bin, have never had a good recipe from it yet.

any of you ladies have some good book suggestions of recipes which are easy but tasty and suit the whole family.

Cba, I use all sort of books for my cooking, but my dh brought a recipe book bought by his mum into the marriage Its called Mary Berry's complete cookery book. It has pretty much every thing you could think of in there, and the recipes always work. Because there are so many recipes the instructions are not very detailed but as I say I have never gone wrong and find them easy to follow

A dollop of marmite can work as well. I use Mary Berry books, Nigella is good as well, and I've never cooked anything bad from Delia.

I also meant to add 'Just like mother used to make' by Tom Norrington-Davies. Best shepherds pie ever, and no moans about the amount of veg I put in it either.

The Good Food little books are great as well, especially Simple Suppers and One-Pots.

if its beef stew add a big can of corned beef tastes lovley in a stew and thickens it nicley too

I second scaryteacher you cant beat nigella or delia.

I also have a cookbook called family favorites which has everything from steak and kidney pudding to takeaway dishes.

oh, it has turned out gorgeous in the end. Added a pint of red wine, some tomato puree and a bit of bisto. Kids loved it so much ds2 even ate the carrors, parsnips and shallots. Thanks ladies. Will definately look at the books mentioned.

Sorry, but Tana Ramsey sucks.

My sister bought it and not knowing that rosemary and lamb go hand in hand, she goes bakes something (with disatrous concequences) from her book.
I'm waiting for A.W.Thompson Saturday - cooks book to come out in the next coupla weeks
