Air fryer...if I don't care about cost or time

Well of course I do! But I'm trying to understand.....

I GET that the airfyer is faster. And I GET that it is cheaper than my oven. BUT does it fundamentally cook any different to my fan oven?

It reads just like a fan oven. But where do these "amazing" and fat free chips come from for example?

Please put me out of my misery and incessant scrolling!!

TIA

I really think it depends on how many people you are cooking for. For just myself, I would avoid heating up the oven.

For one or possibly two, the air fryer means I can have delicious roast veg and a chop with a no trouble.

It is also very convenient for people who as they get older start to have trouble getting down to a floor standing oven, especially with a hot oven

Absolutely get the one with two drawers. Genius.

I have a question.
Just got my 1st one, a Ninja dual drawer one.
Can I make thinks like green Thai curry, say, that uses a whole can of coconut cream...basically anything in a sauce?

Absolutely.

Depending on volume either in a bowl or jug, of for more, using the whole drawer. And rice in the other drawer.

I wasn’t convinced, ended up getting one two months ago. Haven’t turned the oven on since! Anything crispy is better in it. Everything is quicker - and just more convenient, no baking sheets, oven gloves, bending down with toddlers at oven height.

Thank you Finally much appreciated.

I find it a bit worrying that people want their food crispier.
A few posters on here have said that their chips are crispier, their chicken is crispier and their croissants are amazing ( ie crispier.) as though crispy food is nirvana.

We really shouldn't be eating crispy food.

Im clearly in a minority.

We shouldn't be eating crispy food! Give it a rest.

If you like crispy skin on salmon and sea-bass the air fryer skin side up never fails to deliver.

I think it's just another gimmick that will end up in the back of a cupboard. But, I haven't got one so how do I know?

WhatADrabCarpet · 23/07/2023 20:31

@Destinedforfakeness
Ok, so what are you saying?

WhatADrabCarpet · 23/07/2023 20:33

@Destinedforfakeness that's exactly what I said.

Mum2jenny · 23/07/2023 20:39

Hated mine and gave it to my Son in Law

Acornsoup · 23/07/2023 20:59

I hate mine, the kitchen stinks and everything you cook in them smells and tastes of sausages 🤮 no matter how much it is cleaned.

Can I ask what is wrong with crispy food? I like my chips crispy! Why would that be worse for me than soggy chips?

Todayisanewday75 · 27/07/2023 08:21

I do still use my oven but some things are just better in the air fryer

Bagel/muffin pizzas, taste amazing and only 5 minute
Toasties, cooked in the middle without burning the outside
Chicken drumsticks
Roasted veg, especially sweet potatoes
Sausages
Patatas bravas
Even oven chips taste better

Mine is too small to cook a meal for a family though, so generally sides or snacks go in

Personally, I think the main benefit IS cost and time. So if you don't care about those, don't bother. For me, the time and convenience really is it - 11 minutes for frozen croissants, 15 minutes from walking through the door to having DD's chicken breast/chicken Kiev with chips cooked, roasted tomatoes for lunch in 20 minutes....

Having said that, SIL loves hers because she can roast things with less fat as she's a bit fat-phobic. So she does roast potatoes and the like and just sprays them with a bit of oil spray or whatever.

I hesitated for about two years and finally got a 9.5L dual baskets one a couple weeks ago at half price.

I have to say, I've only used for a week or so (took time to figure out the accessories like silicone liners and racks). The biggest difference it makes to me is the speed.

To do ribs for a family of four (two packs of ribs), I would usually have to heat up oven and take probably 40 minutes with ribs cooked but also dried inside. With the air fryer, I felt almost like just playing with the food. Took no time to heat up, and put the ribs in (turned out do need some oil brushed on). 2 baskets, less than 20 minutes, all done. And they tasted really tender inside but just right amount of burnt outside. I think that's game changer. It improved the texture massive and made the food more enjoyable.
