Hi all,

Vegetarian here looking for a decent Indian dish from our local takeaway. What does paneer actually taste like?

Thanks Smile

A very mild cheese with a firm(ish) textures.

I tried it, I was veggie years ago and would have loved it.

Definitely not like tofu.

Let us know X

I only opened this as I read the title as ‘what does your partner taste like.’

Me too.

I’m a paneer-loving vegetarian, OP. It tastes of very little, but absorbs favour really well, and adds a great texture.

Nothing like feta as it’s firm and not crumbly. It’s AMAZING we all love it (mixed white / Indian family). It’s super easy to cook with as well. Our local takeaway does a Gurkha paneer thing that’s lush.

Actually OP this thread needs a trigger warning as now I really want a curry. Thanks (not) 😁

Really nice. Always vegetarian. Made with lemon juice I think, so no worries re rennet etc.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2023 23:20

It's most like a milder version of halloumi. Nothing at all like feta or cottage cheese, so I never understand why it's often described like that.

Ibizafun · 22/07/2023 23:24

Pretty much like the container it comes in

Tetchypants · 22/07/2023 23:26

I love paneer. The poster who said mozzarella taste / halloumi texture is right. We often put it in veggie curries usually with potato, cauliflower, chick peas and spinach. Fry it off a bit first to soften the rubberyness. Delicious.

Nothing

Dotcheck · 22/07/2023 23:27

Now I need to know if OP liked it….

ODFOx · 22/07/2023 23:33

Me too! How was it OP??

Blueuggboots · 23/07/2023 00:07

I love paneer, love feta, hate tofu.

katem98 · 23/07/2023 08:41

Sorry all I fell asleep shortly after curryGrin! It was great! I've avoided Indian takeaway since becoming a veggie as it never really floated my boat afterwards but definitely will have more often now. Was nice to have something different too!

Oh glad you liked it OP. I love paneer too. Try palak paneer (spinach and paneer) too some time!

cocksstrideintheevening · 23/07/2023 23:25

Nothing. It tastes of whatever sauce you out it in.

BlackForestCake · 25/07/2023 22:10

But Indian is the absolute best cuisine for vegetarian food!
