Can you make homemade 'vegetable crisps'?

I bought a bag from Morrisons yesterday, and they're really tasty. They're a mix of beetroot, parsnip and carrot. Just wondering if, and how you could make them at home?

Yes you can deep fry them easily

Just in sunflower oil? I think the only other addition to the ingredients is salt - do you put that on afterwards?

Just found this on the BBC food website:

For sweet potato crisps, pour the vegetable oil into a medium saucepan or deep fat fryer and heat until a small cube of bread sizzles and turns golden when dropped into it. (CAUTION: hot oil can be dangerous. Do not leave unattended.)

Carefully drop the sweet potato slices into the hot oil and fry for four minutes, or until golden-brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Sprinkle with sea salt.

Right, will be trying this tomorrow!

You have to be careful as cook them for slightly too long and they taste burnt. Plus you see how much oil they actually absorb [wink. I am absolutely addicted to vegetable crisps-Tyrells the best IMHO but expensive. Such a Sat night treat though. I put salt on afterwards but remember less is more-too much and they are ruined.

What other vegetables can you use?

My DS's, who hate veg, both wolfed these down, so I'm going to kid myself that they're OK for them. Will drop the salt for them though.

I make my own lasagne crisps, and add onion salt (no idea what's in that though) and parmesan, which gives a nice flavour.
