Obsessed with coffee, need a replacement!

I drink coffee all day every day. I don't think I'm addicted to caffeine, I just really love the taste of Moma oat milk in a coffee and am a stay at home mum so I'm going through a whole carton a day! It's an expensive habit as Moma is £2 a carton. No other oat milk comes close.

I want to replace it with something else, but at a loss as to what.

I'm not a fan of flavoured teas, or should I say I haven't found a tea I like yet, I don't drink normal tea anyway as I find it disgusting.

I don't have any sugar in my drink so I won't drink anything with sugar in.

I'm at a real loss, I drink water but want something that makes me feel like I'm getting a hug, like coffee 😂

Can anyone recommend something?

Thank you.

what about a horchata? It's a rice based drink, they normally have sugar in to sweeten but you could skip it. This is the recipe I use. Only thing is that it's served cold, which might not be what you are after.

I presume you have tried a proper Indian masala chai? If not I highly recommend dishooms recipe, again you can skip the sugar.

However, is it not more logical to just limit yourself to a couple of cups a day? Or have you considered making your own oat milk which I think is just oats and water, so should be cheap.

Mexican Horchata ~ Delicious Rice & Cinnamon Drink

A delicious and easy recipe to make horchata at home! It's a rice and cinnamon drink that's just about the best-tasting creamy drink ever!

That rice drink is packed with sugar from the rice.

What about cocoa? Unsweetened cocoa powder in hot water with cinnamon?

I presumed that OP meant no added sugar, not no naturally occurring sugars, as that would also eliminate the oat milk she currently drinks surely?

I'll have to give that a try! I can't limit myself unfortunately as I'm all or nothing!

And yes, no refined sugars

Horchata should be made with tiger nuts and normally has quite a bit of added sugar. It's a drink typical from Valencia. I would not recommend drinking too much of it every day

SummaLuvin · 05/07/2023 16:49

@TreesandFish true for Spanish Horchata, but this is a drink that exists in numerous parts of the world. In Mexico it is most commonly rice based, though seeds can also be used as a base.

Coffee gives me migraines so I drink barleycup and love it. DH is a hard core coffee drinker but he also likes barleycup. Holland and Barrett sell it. barleycup.com

Thank you! I didn't know that Blush I'm from Valencia so I thought it was the same everywhere

Switch to.coffee with unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened oat milk.

I can't drink coffee with anything other than oat milk, too watery otherwise. And only Moma hits the spot

I have a lot of sugar in my tea, but it's the way I like it so I'm unprepared to compromise. Instead I use a small teacup, that way I can have the tea as sweet as I like but am having less sugar as the volume of tea is about 1/3 less than a normal mug. Could you do something similar for your coffee? Have it the same way, have the same number of cups a day, but just use a smaller cup?

TooMinty · 06/07/2023 09:20

I keep seeing an advert for a machine to make your own plant based milk. The machine is about £300 up front but the cost per drink might make it worth it? You will need to experiment to get the oat milk flavour right though!

BoohooWoohoo · 06/07/2023 09:22

Have you considered making your own oat milk? Lots of videos online.

AmilyChestnut · 06/07/2023 09:24

I've tried making my own but it is watery, I love the thick creaminess of shop bought.

We are trying to save money on our food shop, and over £50 a month on the mail I like isn't really justifiable. That plus the £30 on peanut butter 😂

You could try rooiboos vanilla tea. It doesn't taste like tea. It has a weird, slightly medical flavour that I find really comforting. Can be drunk with or without milk and although it's sugar free, it has that lovely vanilla taste.

I also second trying chai spicy tea - Twinings do teabags of it that are quite nice. You could add a small amount of the oat milk you like.

It sounds, though, that the issue is the oat milk not the coffee. Could you wean off it by making every second cup either black or with a dash of normal milk. You can buy good decaff fresh coffee now too, if you're worried about caffeine levels.

Fresh mint tea made from mint leaves is also delicious.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 06/07/2023 09:34

Learn to drink it black. How many calories are in a full carton of that oat milk?

This isn’t to everyone’s taste but I did the celery juice protocol (Medical medium) for a few years and that made me cut out coffee during the day naturally. I simply didn’t want it which I believe is common amongst CJ devotees. It’s incredible but finding decent celery where I live is a ball ache hence why I no longer do it but I still only have 1 coffee per day.
