Dh is 40 in April having a get together not sure how many people.

What buffet food should I serve.

It's been a long time since I've had to do one.

All ideas greatly appreciated.

If its been sooo long why dont you do a theme? Like a '70/80s' revival....cocktail sausages/cheese and pickle on a cocktail stick/vol-au-vents etc...??

K999 · 22/02/2008 19:40

Or alternatively fajitas are always good...yum!

WingsofanAngel · 22/02/2008 19:40

That did cross my mind. Stick to what I know !!

We went to 40th couple of weeks ago - they did canapy type food that came around during the evening - went fo a Thai type theme - it was very nice and worked really well in allowing people to mingle rather than be static with plates and cutlery - also frees a hand for the champagne flute also of course.

WingsofanAngel · 22/02/2008 19:57

That sound good whichwitch.

I have the idea of more champagne flowing than heavy food.

Is it a family thing or grown ups only?

cornsilk · 22/02/2008 20:32

Tapas type things?

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 22/02/2008 20:34

some nice recipes here

janeite · 22/02/2008 20:39

Tapas a good idea.

Or a Middle Eastern theme - hoummus, pitta, taboulleh etc.

Or the easiest thing is just loads of good bread, cheese, grapes, olives etc.

WingsofanAngel · 22/02/2008 20:39

It will be mainly family so there will be children too.

Some nice looking recipes LardyMardyDaisyBoo.

I'll have MIL to help too.

Agree about the champagne- also think Middle East will work just as well as Oriental depending on what you and the guests will prefer. Also our friends had a couple of local 6th form girls assist with passing round food and drink - my DD school has some girls on lower 6th who offer this (she is only 6 though so it wont be her friends!) - it allowed the hosts time to enjoy the company - having a similar party ourselves back end of the year and will definitely employ them or similar (local Au pairs/neighbours children etc.

They hired the plates and glasses - I did this for a christmas school parents party that we hosted - I was surprised how cheap this worked out 10 champagne flutes for about £3(for the basic stuff) and great to put it back into the trays and wave it goodbye on the Monday

Well I like

A good cheese board with some nice crackers & some interesting bread
Pate (3 or 4 nice ones incl fish & veggie)
Cold meats
Samosas
Fajitas
Ham/beef slices (perhaps in rolls or little trumpets)
Really good potato salad or just cold boiled potatoes
Egg mousse (with prawns on)
Salmon mousse
Several salads (rice/pasta/carrot & raisin/waldorf etc)
Some dips (DH has a peanut butter dip - I'm not sure I recommend that tho)
Fruit platter
Mini profiteroles
Mini pavlovas
Mini cheesecakes

WingsofanAngel · 24/02/2008 08:37

Some lovely ideas.

I think a good cheese board.

Meats.

I was thinking of maybe Veg kebabs.

I like the sound of Salmon mousse and Egg mousse.

We will have just moved to our new house a fortnight before so hopefully we will be all unpacked by then
