Can anyone help my tired brain please.

My kids primary school has sports day on Wed, and parents have been asked to bake for a cake sale. It’s going to bet very hot on Wed, all all the cakes will be sat outside …. And I’m crap at baking . I also have to work tmrw so will have to pop to the supermarket en route for ingredients .

I was planning to strategically forget but my 5yo has been reminded at school to remind me, and will be really sad if we don’t take something in on Wed morning. 😩

What is very easy to make , vegetarian, that won’t melt / go rank sat out in the heat?!

ideal option would be a hack type recipe where I don’t actually have to bake ! I was thinking a jus-rol thing adapted ? But not sure if this will be passable !

I thought of crispy cakes but they’ll melt won’t they.

something with ready made meringues ? Can I just stick something onto them ?!

Need to make it tmrw eve!

helppp!!

Thank you !

The thing is , with just buying a packet of cookies or whatever , DD really wants to “bake”. (But she’s young enough she’d be happy with one of these hacks / decorating something).

I still wouldn't bake for sports day just buy something at least that way people know what's in it and that it's not full of children's snot or dirty fingers (not directed at your child specifically but small children are disgusting beings).

Then agree to bake with her this weekend and it can be a nice relaxed activity with no stress of it needing to work because it's for tomorrow and no drama if she then wants to eat them all.

no offence taken, you’re completely correct!!

I used to buy the bakery cookies in the clear plastic tubs and put them in my own tin. I got loads of complements on them and finally fessed up in year 6 🤣

I would do a no bake slice or something that doesn't need the oven on! I often buy those pre-baked, sweet pastry cases and just add in various toppings. Some favourites (all NO bake!):

  • Salted caramel tart. Into the pastry case, pour a tin of caramel, sprinkle a little salt on top, then cover in a thin layer of chocolate. Not ideal for sitting in the hot sun, make quick and easy for another time maybe.
  • Lemon tart. Make a lemon curd (or buy a jar) and pour into the pastry case. Can be decorated with drizzles/curls of chocolate or sugared lemon decoration things
  • Chocolate tart in the pastry case

No bake slices:

Lemon slice

Everybody loves a sweet treat and this lemon slice will be welcomed in the lunch boxes of kids and adults alike.

I'd definitely also be buying something from a shop

Flapjack. Make it if you have the ingredients, just buy it ready made if you need to purchase the ingredients.
Everyone loves flapjacks, don't overthink it.

I was on the PTA and often ran the bake sale. I love baking for it but really don't expect many parents to do so, and shop bought donations are so appreciated too. Any fancy bought stuff (eg decorated cupcakes, donuts) goes really fast as it's familiar and safe to picky kids, and we can open it a box at a time which is really handy - and if they don't get sold, they keep and can be given to teachers / used for the next event.

Also any free from donations that are bought are so appreciated as we can keep them in the packaging to avoid cross contamination. We usually have to buy these ourselves.

In the heat I would avoid anything sticky, chocolatey or covered in icing so maybe scones, biscuits or cookies as others have suggested! Just keep it simple.

-Tray of pre-made fairy cakes
-very thin layer of glacé icing (icing sugar and water)
-kids washed their hands and stuck own brand type sweets all over them

quickest selling cakes at the even apparently , all went in a few mins. Cost me £2. Will do again!

(I mean they look disgusting to me, but I am not a small child).
