How to store homemade bread?

How do you store your breadmaker bread to keep it fresher longest? Do you use a wrap/bag/cloth around the bread before putting in the bread bin?

Also, does anyone have any favourite pre made mixes for when I need to do make something v quick and reliable? Thanks!!

I've got a bag from Lakeland. I don't know how but it definitely keeps the bread fresh longer.

The disadvantage is that it's opaque so people don't know there is bread.

I've got the Lakeland bag too. Actually I have two, any bread that will be around longer than today and tomorrow goes in the freezer on the first day, so one bag lives in the freezer.

Thanks. I can't link but is it just the drawstring, fabric bag they do?

Yes, it's fabric on the outside and plastic on the inside.

I just leave mine out. Keeps it crusty and it never lasts long enough to mould

You see, I think that's a good plan. People will eat it is they can see it. That's my problem. Everyone says 'oh, there's bread! I didn't know' when it's too late,

Thanks. I have young DC so nobody is really helping themselves. I've started to make the bread to replace all shop bought bread so theoretically I'd like there to always be a loaf in the breadbin in the same way!

I just wrap it in a regular tea towel, seems to work best, so I guess a cloth bag would be the same.

I've got this from KitchenCraft, comes with the slicing guide thing which is really handy!

Coincidentally, I Googled this yesterday.

Plastic bag to keep it fresh longer. It will go soft though as the moisture is retained.

Cloth or paper will keep it crusty but it will dry out quickly.

So basically, it depends on how long you will be keeping it. I generally keep in a plastic freezer bag as one loaf lasts 2 or 3 days. That is, unless the dc are home, in which case it's closer to 2 per day.

Oh my god that looks amazing! 😆

Slice it when it has cooled down and put it in the freezer

I'd say it depends on the type of bread and how crusty it is (or isn't) to begin with.

I make sourdough, which is pretty crusty, which I keep in one of Ikea's medium-large sized plastic food storage bags they sell in a cardboard box.

When I used to use a bread maker, I think we just used to keep it cut-side down in the bread bin..? As that had a soft crust to begin with.

Bread mixes - Hovis Granary is lovely, but not cheap!

wrapped in a tea towel & in the bread bin.

I don't worry too much about it going stale, a toaster will make it delicious. though I have a bag of bread crumbs (from bread that's gone too hard)

I bought some drawstring cotton bags from Amazon - they're not plastic lined. Mine are plain and came in a pack of three, but they're similar to these. I like that they're quick to wash and dry.

I leave mine out on the board cut side down

I make most of our bread by hand, it really doesn't keep well because there aren't the preservatives in it that shop bought bread has (ie the junk)so I make a large loaf and half a dozen baps at once and freeze if not going to be eaten in 24 hours. I fully slice the loaf up so we can just take out slices as required.
