Is hiding veg morally reprehensible?

As I was surreptitiously mixing parsnip into the mashed potato I couldn't help feel guilty.

Is it ok to deceive children (and DH) in this way? For the sake of their health, after all.

Or I am going to a portion of hell reserved for Mummies Who Often Weren't Very Truthful?

of course not!

sfxmum · 20/02/2008 16:35

it is practical parenting 101
while of course keep offering the non hidden variety without stressing they are not eating

Baffy · 20/02/2008 16:35

It's for their own good and they're enjoying the food you prepare, so don't give it a second thought!

colditz · 20/02/2008 16:37

No, it's excellent parenting.

HuwEdwards · 20/02/2008 16:37

I've done it with DCs but I always tell them - after they've wolfed it.

doesn't everyone do this?!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 20/02/2008 16:39

It's ok unless your child has a life-threatening parnsip allergy, in which case you are doing something very wrong.

If i didn't hide veg then DD wouldn't eat any - apparently she doesn't like it

isaidno · 20/02/2008 16:48

oh, good, my soul is safe for another day at least

Absolutely not unreasonable, so much easier than fighting over cold carrot...I do think twice about lying about the content of the dishes I cook though - "Mummy, has this got spinach in?" (Said in suspicious tones). "Hmm, what would you like for pudding?" (Brightly to divert attention...

MrsJohnCusack · 20/02/2008 21:28

it's not but my bloody DD KNOWS
she won't eat things with hidden veg

then suddenly she voluntarily ate some carrot yesterday - I couldn't BELIEVE it

I think she was just tormenting me though with a vision of how things could be, and she won't do it again
