Healthy filling snacks

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for snacks between meals that are healthy but also filling.
I'm currently breastfeeding and feel ravenous from 3pm onwards. I end up eating about 5 biscuits at 3pm (which I'm looking to replace), couple pieces of chocolate, my dinner at 5:30pm, then Weetabix, walnuts and oat milk around 8pm.
Vegetable sticks / fruit just doesn't seem to satisfy that 3pm hunger like it does in the morning, but clearly neither do the biscuits!

I'd love an alternative to eat that's good for me but also fills me up (I'd rather it wasn't bread as I'm not a huge bread fan)

These are some of the snacks we regularly have and also give the kids...

Falafels and houmous. A potato cake with a scrambled egg. Apple slices and peanut butter. Porridge with dried fruit stirred through. Cottage cheese with veg sticks and toasted pitta slices.

Cottage cheese with thin cracker type things is lush and really filling! I used to have it for lunch when u was trying to lose weight x

Homemade flapjack/granola bar with lots of nuts and seeds? Oats help with lactation. I read chia seeds can help make a bar chewy rather crumbly (don’t want crumbs raining down on breastfed child’s head while you feed and snack!), but have yet to try it.

Try teaming an apple with some cubes of cheese.
Savoury flapjacks are good.
Toasted pita with hummus
Cold, hard boiled eggs

Try to eat protein with every meal and drink lots of water.

You need to add fat and protein to the fruit and veg, and have 3-4 textures, e.g.:

A snack bowl with cheddar cubes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, olives

A bowl with sliced fruits and nuts or nut butter

A small can of tuna in olive oil plus a boiled egg

Greek yogurt with something mixed in - berries/honey/a spoonful of jam

Greek yogurt (real, not Greek Style) is great for protein to fill you up. Sprinkle with some berries, flaked almonds and honey.

Protein -

Hard-boiled eggs
slices of ham
chunks of cheese
low-fat yogurts
Quark (with a banana or apple)
Philadelphia cheese (have with fruit)

Personally, I don't think I'd describe what you are eating now as 'unhealthy' but you can certain find things that are more filling and nutritious.

In the early days of bf mine, I regularly had a bowl of nuts, medjool dates, dried fruit and dark chocolate. Literally, dh would bring it up to me for bedtime and I'd snack on it during the night when I was awake. You may not be in the overnight snacking stage of the baby stage, but that's a perfectly healthy snack.

Other things would be:
Hummus and pretzels/breadsticks/toast/pita
Apples and peanut or almond butter or cheese
Devilled eggs
Salami & sliced cheese (I like leerdamer) rolls
Bagel and cream cheese
Have these with extra fruit and veg for vitamins and fibre

Savoury flapjacks are great here - oats, veg, a good amount of grated cheese and a kick of chilli if wanted.

If no time for cooking ahead though, then maybe Greek yoghurt with nuts, or cheese and apples, or an omelette - just to add some variety and protein.

Nuts. Almonds are particularly rich in protein and fibre. And they're tasty - especially salted or smoked. And, of course, there's no prep or tidying up.

I suggest you eat them one at a time and chew well, otherwise it's easy to eat a ridiculous amount.
