Does anyone give their kids Nutella on toast for breakfast or coco pops for an after school snack or is the media taking the mickey again?

Coco pops for breakfast, yes sometimes DD's favourite.
DS sometimes has a bowl of cereal after school or after dinner if he is hungry.

Quite fancy chocolate spread on toast for my breakfast, but I have lemoncurd instead, OH shock horror!!!

LyraSilvertongue · 18/02/2008 23:38

Mine have had cocopops recently , due to them nagging me after seeing an ad on tv. I've told them they wont get another box till Christmas.
They usually have something healthier like Weetabix or porridge, but it doesn't hurt to give them the odd treat.

DS is bored of shreddies, cherios, rice crispies. What can you suggest (low sugar + tasty)?

Shreddies and Cheerios aren't low sugar by the way. Not that it matters particularly - a bit of sugar won't do them any harm

Porage

Toast and marmite

Yoghurt and fruit

Pancakes

Or, if you've got my dd, taramasalata and olives.

Scramble · 18/02/2008 23:43

DS had a roll with pate and dairylee this morning.

LyraSilvertongue · 18/02/2008 23:45

DSs snuck downstairs this morning and made their own breakfast of cheese, crackers and dried fruit. I must've done something right

avenanap · 18/02/2008 23:45

I know about the sugar, he never eats them anyway. Tried those. Porridge with strawberies and maple syrup (brushed teeth after), museli, crusants, I havn't done pancakes yet, I'll try that, thankyou.

I think they stick something addictive in cookie crisps!

pancakes/

LyraSilvertongue · 18/02/2008 23:47

DS2 loves muesli.

Just in case you were thinking of it - life's too short to make pancakes on a school morning. The vacuum packed one are delicious and only take a miute in the microwave. 8 in a packet. Brill.

Smithy · 18/02/2008 23:50

It's possible to do pancakes on a school day - make the batter the previous evening and keep it in the fridge. Or, make a batch and keep them in the fridge overnight for the next morning.

Scramble · 18/02/2008 23:52

I am too busy cutting slices of my freshly baked bread

seeker · 18/02/2008 23:52

I wish there was a 'slummy mummy' emoticon - I'd use it all the time!

chunkychips · 18/02/2008 23:52

toast with peanut butter and jam, boiled egg, hummus on toast, croissant, flavoured yoghurt and add your own oats like a sort of bircher situation.

avenanap · 18/02/2008 23:52

I was going to make the mixture the night before and stick it in the fridge. He has toast, fruit and yogurt anyway so it won't make much of a difference timewise. He'll expect it every morning though.

I often whip up a quick scrambled egg on toast for my two as they do get hungry - also cereal and then toast - they'd go mad if I tried to palm them off with just cereal!

avenanap · 18/02/2008 23:55

he'll only eat omelette, not scrambled egg . He's very pleased that he lives with me though, his dad took him out for the day yesterday and all he had to eat was 2 doughnuts

discoverlife · 19/02/2008 00:17

Its better for them to have something than nothing, better yet if it is remotly health.
Yes he does have nutella sandwiches for breakfast.....and he has cereals for snacks.

madamez · 19/02/2008 00:20

Weetabix, the occasional chocolate-dipped minidonut (well it's not that far, nutritionally, from a chocolate croissant which is perfectly acceptable for breakfast in Franc ) toast, a plateful of dried apricots, ricecakes and chunks of cheddar, toast with butter, toast with marmite, cheese on toast... He has regrettably taken a fancy to my Crunchy Nut Cornflakes at the moment. Well at least I now know he doesn;t havea nut allergy...

AussieSim · 19/02/2008 00:25

Coco pops on holidays only when they are on the breakfast buffet at the place we are staying. Nutella never. My DH makes a fuss of giving them a German breakfast of fresh breadrolls with Jam and a boiled egg. Standard for us are whole grain cereals or peanut butter on toast and an occasional crumpet with honey. Wholemeal pancakes from time to time - those ones where you just add the milk to the bottle and shake it and cook it!

mynaughtylittlesister · 19/02/2008 00:31

We tend to have those things when DC are on holiday from sch, in fact we are totally relaxed when DC are on holiday, they have what they like, but they understand that if they eat CRAP, then within an hr they are hungry and do not get anything else! They soon realise!
