I have a block of butter that’s going out of date tomorrow. Any ideas for things I could make that a toddler friendly?

Biscuits

Flapjacks
Cheese scones
Root veg mash and put in the freezer
White sauce / bechamel for lasagne or chicken pie etc

If it's proper butter it will be fine past the date.

Tomato sauce. For a whole block of butter use four tins of tomatoes and two onions (whole but peeled). Put everything into a large saucepan, bring to boil then simmer for as long as you've got. Remove onion before serving.

It's thee only pasta sauce my dd will eat.

Macaroni cheese?

Popcorn.

It will be fine after the date. You can also freeze it if you don't find an immediate use for it.
I usually make garlic bread if I need to use up a load of butter but your toddler might not be so keen on that.

If it's actual butter, it will be fine for several weeks after it's use by date, so just use it as normal. No need for panic action!

StylishM · 03/05/2023 20:46

Please don't pay attention to use-by dates unless it's seafood/poultry! Trust your nose, eyes and the texture of the item. I've got eggs I've used tonight for baking that are 'use by' 2nd Feb!

Butter will last months and months

Butter doesnt go off very quickly, just dont leave it somewhere warm.

You can freeze butter. Maybe freeze half?
