Non UPF tortilla wraps

Does anyone know of any non UPF tortilla wraps please? I haven't located any yet on the shelves of Asda or Tesco.
Are there any brands I can look at that you know of please? Trying to avoid UPFs but we do like a fajita or burrito.
Alternatively, does anyone make their own?

I've always wanted to try making my own but haven't yet. It's supposed to be easy. I think they are all highly processed otherwise.

Cool Chile Corn Tortillas are not too bad, but thats as close as I have found. Crosta & Mollica flatbreads are organic.

Have a look at mexgrocer.co.uk . Includes full ingredient listings, & they do real corn tortillas.

I think crosta and mollica are good

It's quite easy to make flatbreads- flour, yogurt, salt and a little oil. Roll thin for wraps.

Thank you, this is reassuring, I might actually give it a go!

I do a flour, baking powder, warm water and a dash of oil recipe. It is simple but takes time to roll them out and cook them.

I make wraps from bread dough. 500g of flour and a teaspoon of salt makes nine which is enough for us - I add yogurt, but you could use all milk instead of water. Because you don't need a good rise and crumb, quantities are less important. I add a small blob of fresh yeast, but you could use a teaspoon of baking powder instead.

Mix with enough liquid to make a stick dough. Leave to rise, and then roll out when you're ready to cook. We like stir fry, halloumi and shredded lettuce in ours. Heat a frying pan and drop in a wrap - I dry fry them. Wrap in a tea towel while you cook the rest. They only take a couple of mins on each side.

Crosta and mollica

KnittedCardi · 30/04/2023 21:56

C&M are piada though. Pretty different from a tortilla.

Secondwindplease · 30/04/2023 22:01

@KnittedCardi i mean it’s a wrap at the end of the day. Main ingredients flour, oil and salt. How different can it be 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well a piada isn't a wrap..... You can't really wrap it, and it tastes completely different because of the olive oil, but then I'm Italian so somewhat biased I guess.

Secondwindplease · 30/04/2023 22:31

@KnittedCardi You can definitely wrap the C&M ones, we do it all the time. The olive oil gives it a distinctive taste but it works fine with everything we’ve used them for.

Charles11 · 30/04/2023 22:34

I often make my own but I also use lavash bread which is a good alternative and not too processed.
I can't believe the ingredients for wraps! A whole paragraph of weird ingredients.

Longwhiskers · 30/04/2023 22:42

We buy the crosta & mollica ones. I have made my own but found they took ages to be ready as you cooked one at a time and by number eight I was a bit zzzzzz

This seems like the right place to ask if anyone has recommendations for non-UPF ice cream, please…

I make ice cream in an ice cream maker - used to freeze in an empty ice cream box and whisk when semi frozen.

300ml tub of double cream and then fill carton with 300ml full fat milk. Heat until starting to simmer. Whisk eggs and sugar. Most recipes are six egg yolks only, but I use three whole eggs and about 80g sugar and some vanilla. Make custard by adding the milk and cream to the eggs and sugar. Safest to cool the hot milk a little and add very slowly. Then return to the saucepan, and heat slowly until the mixture thickens as you would for custard. Chill in fridge - I always make it the night before.

When I used to make this for the whole family, I'd have to make two or three batches. Now, I make it and there's always some in the freezer because we only have a scoop as a treat.

lochmaree · 30/04/2023 23:06

We use the Old El Paso ones as they have less ingredients than the supermarket own brand. Don't think they'd be UPF free altogether though.

I've also just started making my own bread and amazed at how easy it is, total convert! so I may try wraps too at some stage.

Charles11 · 30/04/2023 23:19

@Secondwindplease I saw some the other day in Costco. It was very expensive though.
I haven't made my own ice cream but I've made the frozen banana ice cream which is amazing (unless you detest bananas) Look it up on YouTube or Google. It's basically whizzed up frozen bananas and milk or dairy free milk and whatever flavour you like. - cocoa for chocolate, berries, peanut butter. So simple but you need to eat it there and then.
