What dessert should I make?

Mind is blank: please help!

Going traditional for Bank Holiday Monday and serving:
Asparagus soup with cheese bread.

Garlic and rosemary leg of lamb with sauted spinach and leeks, glazed carrots, roasted swede and celeriac, peas with pancetta, dauphinoise potatoes.

pud

Cheese, fruit and nuts

There are 11 of us ( all adult) so I could do two things. Suggestions please, preferably that can be prepared in advance and either chilled or oven cooked while we eat.

Thanks

Pavlova? (Or deconstructed Eton mess)

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/04/2023 11:28

Trifle, apple & strawberry crumble/pie or lemon pie.

antidisestablishmentarianism · 29/04/2023 11:31

If you are going traditional what about apple crumble, or apple pie? As an alternative you could do something like lemon posset

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/04/2023 11:33

Tarte aux Fruits and clotted cream?

Something like a granita from tinned peaches frozen and blitzed, add berries, passionfruit and mint sprigs, splash of gin optional?

It could keep the light, springlike feel going and wouldn't need to be cooked whilst eating the previous courses, it could be just taken out to soften and then assembled quickly.

Clafoutis, pop it in the oven while you're eating. Delicious and easy!

I'd buy some of those pre-made pastry tart cases and then do any of the following:

Had a meal out last week and for dessert had mango and raspberry tarte tatin (if that's the right name as no apple). Delicious!

Delia Smith Apricot and Hazelnut Meringue. https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/type-of-dish/meringues/apricot-hazelnut-meringue-cake

Except I much prefer it with raspberries instead of apricots. You can cook the meringue the day before and then whip the cream the morning of (I add some icing sugar and vanilla extract and framboise if serving to adults) then build it right before serving, this takes 2 mins if you have everything ready.

Apricot Hazelnut Meringue Cake

This used to be a rather soft, rather squashy meringue, but now I like it crisper and chewier. Either way it’s loved by everyone. You can of course use any other fruit – summer berries or in the winter passion fruit. This recipe contains no gluten.

Cheesecake is always a winner. I'd go for that

JPA · 29/04/2023 13:05

You already have cheese covered so I wouldn't do a cheese based dessert. Your main is lamb which is quite a strong flavour, you have 11 adults and prefer something done in advance. I would go with something citrus based that will cut through the richness of the lamb. How about a limoncello lemon sorbet? Can throw in a few buttery shortbready type of biscuit.

SummaLuvin · 29/04/2023 13:12

I'd be tempted to make a tres leches cake

Surpriseparty · 29/04/2023 13:15

I would keep it simple and do chopped fruits (raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, peach - whatever you can find), sprinkle lightly with sugar and serve with double or clotted cream. The fruit can be prepared earlier and left on worktop rather than in the fridge, to bring out the flavours.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I was particularly struck by the meringue pavlova and lemon meringue suggestions so am making a lemon meringue roulade, the recipe for which was given to me by one of the guests over 35 years ago.

I'll also do a fruit platter, and in preparation I made some vanilla ice cream today. Then, as I had the machine out I made a chocolate ice cream with some chopped up (bought) brownies in, so
I'll dip balls of that in chocolate to make frozen petit fours to have with coffee.
Thanks again for the ideas. It's all feeling a bit retro but that's appropriate for most of us who'll be eating 😀

i was going to suggest sticky toffee pudding which can be made ahead, and reheated but I think the desserts you have chosen sound perfect for your also perfect sounding menu.
i know you said a fruit platter but i also think a big bowl of mixed soft fruits would be lovely

Mango and passion fruit pavlova. Tastes amazing/ like a fancy version of a Solero lolly!
