We're having a driving holiday soon and it is going to be warm (not UK). Adults only.
We will make / buy sandwiches/salads/bread & cheese on the day for lunches if we are driving a long distance and not. stopping en route for a meal .Am just pondering what we could chuck in a cool bag to have with us for general snacks so that i'm not tempted to live of crisps, sweets and biscuits!, Can't be things that need to be refrigerated, although can be kept a bit cooler in a cool bag in the boot We don't have, and won't be buying, a travel fridge. Our cool boxes are too bulky from when we travelled with the kids, although might consider getting a better quality small one as i expect they are more effective than the bags?
So fresh fruit, dried fruit, cereal bars, nuts, small cartons of juice. Possibly cuppa soup as we'll take a flask.
And then my mind draws a blank. All ideas welcome, but please nothing that might go off if not refrigerated.
Thank you !

Won't pitted olives make you very thirsty?
I'm not a snacker and prefer to stop for a picnic lunch rather than munch snacks in the car.

We will make sure we have a reasonable lunch, most likely picnic or occasionally a cafe if we are visiting somewhere en route rather than just pulling in to a services to eat and wee! But I like to have something with me on long journeys in case we get stuck and delayed in getting to the next destination where we'll have dinner. I'm not very pleasant company if i'm ravenous! I just want some stuff in the car that will 'keep' without a fridge for emergencies.

Nairns do bags of mini oat cakes in flavours like cheese and sweet chilli. Also little bags of nuts and raisins, watermelon and a knife to cut it with - very refreshing in a hot climate, trail balls etc. If you're taking hummus and vegetable sticks you could also take some pitta bread that you could tear up and dip or some breadsticks. Cherry tomatoes are nice as a snack too. Look out for baby veg as whole baby veg keeps better than chopped up bigger ones.

Dates
Unsalted nuts with or without raisins
Dried fruit - apple, apricot, pear, cranberries
Fresh fruit
Oatcakes or crackers in single serving packets
Homemade flapjack

If go to Holland and Barratt and do a sweep of their snack shelves. Diff nuts, dried fruit, liquorice, sesame snaps, popcorn, rice cakes. Take a tupperwarw so you can decant open packets and stop the items going stale. Done.
