Gagging and Vomitting with lumps, any advice?

My dd (10 months) has always been a puker but that used to be a wind thing.

I'm trying to introduce finger foods as she's pretty independant and likes to feed herself. However she keeps gagging and throwing up. She manages bread sticks most of the time, but pukes every now and again, same with oat cakes. I've had some success with grated apple and cheese.

Has anyone else come across this problem and how do I deal with it? I don't want to stop giving her solid foods as she's so interested in everything.

Help!

Have her tonsils checked out if it keeps continuing - apparently my DH and my sister both had the same thing when they were little.
However she could just have an overactive gag reflex, as she gets a bit older she will learn how to manage this herself.

My Dd was exactly the same, she is nearly 4 now, I think she just had a very sensitive gag reflex, as she still gags really easily now. I do too!

Just keep giving her what you are giving her and obviously always stay near (I know you do anyway!!) She will learn to cope better over time i'm sure

My DS couldn't cope with lumps until he was over a year old. I just kept offering more lumpy food periodically and then one day it magically just worked!

I'll get my HV to look at her tonsils, though every time a doctor has tried to look down her throut with one of those lolly pop sticks, she's spray puked

I'm glad to hear others have had this problem and it seems the answer is just to be patient and keep trying.

Cheers
