Strange allergies - Garlic makes me a monster?

I've come to the conclusion that I have some sort of strange reaction to garlic - whenever I've eaten it I get stomach cramps, wind, headaches and it even seems to have a caffeine-like effect on me - makes me jittery and wide- wake at night? As a result I seem to become an irritable grumpy monster for at least 12 hours or so...
I think I've been in denial about this since I adore garlic bread/ garlic mushrooms etc.
However it seems to be a weird thing to have a reaction to - anyone heard of/experienced this? Are there ways of getting these things 'tested'?

Can't offer any advice but I don't think it can be very unusual to be allergic to garlic. Two of my colleagues react badly to garlic - one of them projective vomits about 30 mins after she eats it, and the other has stomach cramps, wind and diarrheoa.

York Laboratories do allergy testing but its not cheap (over £100 I think). Elimination and reintroduction are as good a test as any for food sensitivities and you might be able to find books about food allergies in your local library.

Once you have identified garlic as being a problem you can experiment with different types of ready prepared garlic and see if it all has the same effect (if you dare). You might find that commercially prepared garlic doesn't have the same effect as fresh so there might be a way around your problem to enable you to still enjoy garlic bread etc.

I've heard of garlic allergies too. I thought you could do a rough and ready home lalergy test by putting a bit of the suspected allergen on your skin (I guess the underneath of your arm is good) covering it with a plaster and leaving it for 10 minutes or so. If you get a red weal, you're probably allergic and if not, you're probably not. This is obviously not the sort of thing to experiment with severe peanut allergies and such like!!

As I said, it's just something I heard elsewhere, I'm not sure how true it is. Having a chat with your GP is probably the best course of action.

When garlic gets old you'll see a green shoot in the middle. Eating this can give you wind and mild tummy upset if you are susceptible.

Are you able to see your reflection in a mirror? Are you sensitive to light?
(Sorry, not very helpful, I know)
