What do you do for pudding?

Hi all,

Looking for thoughts on what everyone does for pudding after dinner (both in the week and at the weekend). We've gotten into a really bad habit of having proper puddings (e.g. cheesecakes, mousse etc) quite often which is really adding up and probably isn't great for us, so wondering if we should either just quit pudding during the week complexly or whether we should replace it with something like fruit/yoghurt/dark chocolate (this is just for adults). I am also a baker so open to suggestions like baking a batch of muffins to have throughout the week?

Thanks!

I don't!
As a child we often had a pudding (sometimes yoghurt or fruit) and it took me some time to train myself out of the habit of wanting something sweet after a meal.
Occasionally if I fancy something I have a square or two of dark chocolate

Just a biscuit with a cuppa most of the time. Domwtimes fruit, if there's something nice in season. Right now it's mangoes. When the cherries and strawberries are good we scoff a punnet every night!

5 or 6 times a year I make something like a proper crumble, or sticky toffee pud. There's only 2 of us so it does us 3 or 4 nights, then that's it for a few months.

I will usually make a pudding at the weekend. If there’s any left everyone is welcome to eat it during the week but I don’t buy / make anything else apart from fruit and yogurt. In the summer time the DC may have an occasional ice cream midweek.

We only do dessert after a Sunday roast. Maybe a small chocolate if a real insatiable urge to have something sweet. Dp would have pudding every day

MinnieMountain · 25/03/2023 11:34

During the week we have plain yogurt and frozen berries available if DS wants it.
At weekends we often have a few chocolates. I normally only make a proper pudding when we have guests.

DrFoxtrot · 25/03/2023 12:31

We don't have regular pudding. Only special occasions.

KatieKline · 25/03/2023 12:41

We don't usually. Although I am planning to make a rice pudding today, because we have milk that needs using.

Probably 3 x a month

Theoldwoman · 25/03/2023 12:44

We don’t often have dessert unless we are entertaining, then it will be rice pudding and custard, apple crumble and ice cream, chocolate fudge puff and ice cream.

If we are still hungry after dinner, then usually will have yoghurt, fruit, cheese and crackers, biscuits etc.

On a Saturday night we have a pudding, I usually make it as I enjoy it. Cheesecake/crumble/tiramisu or anything. Tonight is hot cross bun bread and butter pudding.

On a Thursday night we’ll have some chocolate or something similar as I find I just need a little something then. The rest of the time we don’t have pudding unless it’s a birthday or other occasion.

Basic stuff here. I make a loaf cake or a crumble every Friday, and that does us for puddings over the weekend. In the week, it is fruit, yoghurt or maybe at a push some stewed fruit and custard, or a meringue nest with berries.

Deserts at Christmas or if I very occasionally cook Sunday roast !
Yoghurts and fruit were the offerings for my children when they were little people.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 25/03/2023 13:00

We occasionally do midweek puddings but they're always quick and easy and often throwbacks to my childhood for nostalgic enjoyment.

  • meringue nest with tinned peaches and squirty cream
  • shop bought flan case with tinned mandarins and a drizzle of condensed milk
  • Angel delight
  • tinned fruit cocktail with custard
  • banana split
catshreddedthesofa · 25/03/2023 13:01

Never have proper pudding unless we're rushing people round for dinner.

Sometimes we have ice cream or a few bits of chocolate, but I normally deal with the sweet urge by having orange squash with my dinner.

WeWereInParis · 25/03/2023 13:01

We rarely have a "proper" pudding. Sometimes if I've done some baking with DD1 then there's that. But generally there is just fruit if DD is still hungry.

Rinkydinkydoodle · 25/03/2023 13:11

DH is a pudding man, so yoghurt, a scoop of ice cream or fruit ice lollies in the summer. Kids like things like nesquik bars but they’re expensive for three bites so I only buy them occasionally. Inspired by a PP on this thread to make hot cross bun b&b pudding tomorrow though🤣

Felicity42 · 25/03/2023 13:26

We don't have pudding during the week. Just a biscuit with tea. There's a sort of no ice cream during the week rule! We have ice cream at the weekend. Occasionally might make a cake or cupcakes or something.
It's just extra food that's not needed. And then there's nothing that is a treat if it's treats all week.

xSilverandcoldx · 25/03/2023 13:30

I like tinned fruit for dessert - pears peaches and fruit cocktail ones are my go to!

roamingcat · 27/03/2023 07:49

Thanks all 😃 looks like there’s a lot less puddings in our future! I like the idea of having something homemade after our Sunday roast as we do that most weekends
