Just that really, what are your favourite fakeaways to make? Could you share your recipe?

My husband loves Wagamama's prawn firecracker, and when we can't afford to eat out, I try to make it a home.

If anyone is interested I can share the recipe too

Not just one recipe, but "The Takeaway Secret"by Kenny McGovern is good. My copy is falling apart and food-stained !

The Pinch of Nom books are great for fakeways.

We love a fakeaway. Some of our favourites are:
Restaurant style indian curry's using the misty Ricardo recipes
Wagamama chill chicken ramen
Nando's burger with halloumi etc.
Chinese chicken curry. Mayflower is really popular but we prefer goldfish. Really easy and we have this most weeks.
Singapore noodles/chow mein
Donner kebab. (slow cooker)
Chicken tikka kebab
Salt and chilli chicken & chips. Mayflower seasoning.
Chicken fried rice
KFC zinger burgers using doritos.
Crispy chilli beef.

Pizza - using pizza stones in the oven or on the BBQ. Work surprisingly well.

Kebabs - various. Tandoori chicken or donner (basically a lamb meatloaf baked in foil in the slow cooker) In flatbreads/naans with all the sides.

Ramen.

McDonalds sausage and egg muffins.

Curry is just normal in our house, I don't class it as fakeaway.

Yes please OP looks lovely

I love the Pinch of Nom Fakeaway recipes. Two Chubby Cubs are also good for homemade versions of takeaway food. I live rurally so don't have much choice of takeaways - we can get amazing Indian food and Chinese food in the town but we have to go fetch it as they don't deliver as far as us. So I often make at home instead, as it's just less bother.

Chicken Chow Mein is probably the one that goes down best with the family.

Hairy Dieters sweet and sour chicken.

GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 31/03/2023 23:52

Sweet and sour chicken:

Make sauce in ratio of 1 part brown sugar/1 part vinegar (Chinese rice wine if you’ve got it, white wine or cider vinegar if you haven’t)/3 parts tomato ketchup, all mixed together in a bowl. Adjust to taste.

Heat some oil in a pan/wok and fry chunks of chicken until they’re nearly done. Add an onion or two, chopped into large pieces and cook for a few more minutes. Add a tin of pineapple rings (which have been chopped into chunks) and the sauce, cook for a few more minutes. Check the chicken is cooked all the way through and you’re done!

Serve with rice and maybe some spring rolls (Aldi do nice ones in the frozen section for a couple of quid).
