Wondering if anyone has any recommendations my little boy for the last 6 months or so will not eat chicken/fish/beef
He will eat mince (spag bol) and he will eat sausage and mash etc.

Do I keep trying ? We are very much a meat pot veg household so we will have roast dinners he won't eat the chicken or beef but will eat everything else! I've made chicken curry tonight will not eat the chicken! Points and says urgh chicken! Haha now I don't know if it's just a phase and he does it as a thing now! I'm going to speak to nursery as I'm sure he eats whatever they give him!!

So do I just not bother or shall I keep offering ?? He certainly isn't living off mince and sausages can't stand the things ha!

Can we keep the vegan / vegetarian bleating off a thread where the OP just wants advice?
If we wanted a lecture, we'd ask for one.

or rather just keep the bullshit off these threads. that might work.

I guess I just want to make sure he's getting enough protein. I've not asked him why as he's only 2 well almost 3 so not sure I'd get a proper answer apart from yuck! Nope won't eat salmon etc says it's yuck too haha I think it's a phase ! I'm hoping it is anyway.
He used to pretty much eat anything at all I think it's the old when they start having a choice etc!

dont give up.keep trying to serve it in their.
also make sure you keep eating it. and let him be curious and want to try your dish.make yum noises over something etc. if he likes pizza have some salami onto yours and say "oh this is good try this"
or get him to try stews etc " mr chef i need your help.does this need more salt or tomato?" getting him to do this will make him more eager.

also what about chicken or pork mince. adding small portions where its not recognised as easier. we all have no problem blending or sneaking veg in.it can be the same with meats.
fingers crossed he soon goes back.
dont make it a thing but try the no pressure way of introducing it.
serviing a roast or sausage and mash in a big yorkshire was a great one for us!!

From both sides. The anti vegan "joke" is old and tired, and the crusading anti meat eaters could be more constructive.

DD was a very fussy eater as a small child so I understand the OP's concerns.

Becoming more conservative around food choices is really common at this age too.
You can either take a 'take it or leave it' approach. Just offer the food and if it's not eaten, clear the plates without comment. Offer a very plain and boring snack if they're hungry later.
Or, generally stick to foods he likes until this phase passes.

Its vegans that always bring their bullshit in to it

Mine was never keen, would only eat sausages or mince. She announced she was vegetarian aged 6.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/03/2023 08:31

It’s probably a texture thing and he’ll probably grow out of it.

Keep offering but maybe mix it up a bit with other sources of protein so it doesn’t feel relentless to him. We’re going to have to eat a lot less meat going forward so might as well get started.

Rememberal · 16/03/2023 08:31

My toddler was the same, she's now 12 and still the same. She will eat chicken but rarely any other meat unless it's sorta "hidden" like mince in spag bol. I suspect she'll be a vegetarian/ vegan when she's older. Think some people just don't really like it.

Briallen · 16/03/2023 08:39

Mine didn’t eat meat from ages 1-3. Hated the texture I think. He’s 11 now and will eat sausages, chicken nuggets, burger and spag Bol. He’ll have a mouthful of roast chicken in a roast dinner but doesn’t really like it. Still doesn’t like a lot of meat but is quite fussy in general. He did try being veggie aged 6 but only lasted a few weeks because he missed sausages 😂 I realise my ds is not exactly eating healthy meats but he is a lot better than he was. It’s so tricky when they won’t eat the family meals. I would just keep putting it on the plate for him to try and not make a fuss either way.

My daughter never enjoyed meat and fish. I‘m vegan so wasn’t concerned but her dad still offered it her when he cooked and she’d occasionally eat a bit of sausage or salmon but never anything else. I think it was a texture thing at that age. There were other foods that were an issue too.

If you want him to eat it, keep offering I suppose, like anything else. Make sure he’s getting what he needs elsewhere though if he refuses. There’s plenty of info online about bringing kids up vege, not saying you want to but the info will be useful still. Speak to your GP if you’re unsure. I wouldn’t worry too much though, so many kids go through this or similar.
