I've seen some US recipes - and using steel cut oats which I like. Does it work?

My husband does yes. Puts in on first thing and by the time he's finished getting ready its cooked.

Just regular oats and milk(any type) works fine.

I’ve tried it. It’s no less easy or tasty than doing it in the microwave, and involves an awful lot more washing up!

If I'm making porridge with just normal oats I do it in the microwave. But I've taken to using steel cut oats which take 30 minutes with stirring...(or 20 minutes if soaked) and I thought the rice cooker might just allow me to do other stuff while that was happening.

I’ve tried it but I don’t think it’s worth it (and I prefer Ready Brek or overnight oats to porridge anyway). That was with rolled oats not steel cut oats though. My rice cooker says not to put milk into the initial cook as it will boil over. Apparently milk should only be added when it’s on keep warm. Would you consider rice porridge, which a rice cooker would be ideal for?
