Dh has just wondered aloud what we're having for Xmas dinner. I did something from M&S last year, but was in the throes of morning sickness from hell & resultant screensaver brain, so now have no idea what it was or whether it was anywhere close to edible.

Have seen v yummy looking recipes on separate thread, but since there's only going to be the 3 of us & only 2 of us on solids, I'm thinking buy the 'instead of turkey' bit & concentrate on the Xmassy accompaniments (which I'm quite good at!).

Any recommendations? Oh & I'm allergic to nuts! TIA

I must admit, I tend to not substitute anything for the turkey but just have lots of veggies, roast parsnips are pretty substantial if done with honey or maple syrup, plus stuffing. But you could maybe do a kind of root vege tarte tatin type thingy, or perhaps little filo topped pies with mushrooms, chestnuts etc in a sort of red wine gravy?

Can you use ready roll puff pastry to make tart with nice mushroom-y / leek-y / cheese-y / tomato-ey filling? So at least you'd feel you'd done something culinary when it's really just assembling?
