Coffee drinkers help me please!

Hi all, long time lurker, first ever post but need your help as I'm sure a lot of you are coffee drinkers. I'm wanting to buy one of those coffee machines that you buy the 'pods' to go in for DH, he's recently started drinking coffee again (I've never been able to drink it but adore the smell and bizarrely love coffee cremes and cake!) DS has a 'proper' coffee maker but the faff/mess of that isn't for me and please don't slate me DH is not a coffee connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination. Just enjoys a coffee or latte the odd time so thought I'd get him one but I've no idea where to start as there's lots out there. Are some total shite? Would ideally be able to buy the pods in M&S or Morrisons as they're our nearest/usual shops (Amazon?) Thank you in advance!

There was something published recently on environmental impact, which said pods are better than other methods because they use/waste less coffee. The plastic is less of an issue than the growing of the coffee apparently. Counterintuitive, but there you go.

James Hoffman went through that on you tube yesterday and the whole 'study' was flawed from the beginning.

Was it paid for by a pod company?

My bean to cup needs emptying about every dozen uses, straight to food waste.

@Kranke

That sounds much simpler! Mine was one of those sage ones that makes you feel like an underpaid overworked barista in your own kitchen 😂 😂

We used to have one of these too, and that’s why we swapped to the bean to cup. My husband always makes the coffee in the morning and he used to moan constantly about it. I said he could get whichever one he wants as long as I can still get coffee in bed!!

Aside from the environmental issues, pod coffee is just crap. Seriously, don't bother buying one of those for anyone who likes real coffee. I really love coffee (probably a bit too much) and have an aeropress, but would much rather have a proper bean to cup set-up.
Pods are for people who don't really like coffee much, IME, but like the idea of something slightly "fancier" than Azera.

If he wants a proper coffee, why not get a pour over style coffee filter? It's actual real, decent coffee. All you need is the filter, set it over your cup, put in a paper filter and coffee, pour over water from the kettle. You lift out the paper filter when done and bin/compost and rinse the filter. Couldn't be easier.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to go against the grain having just googled some of them and definitely stick to a pod machine for convenience. They're so reasonable and many offers on them too. Like I've said he's an occasional coffee drinker and definitely would be happy drinking M&S gold for the rest of his life, this is just something I want to get him so he's got a bit of option. Have noted the environmental issues and will follow necessary recycling instructions. Thanks again.
