Sick of getting cooking mess on my clothes but would feel a complete idiot putting a pinny on.

Do you?

Yes. Had 'funky'..ahem.. material ones until my mum bought me a foul luuuurvely pvc one and I realised it was actually much better for a messy bugger like me and slipped gracefully into middle age

ChippyMinton · 09/02/2008 19:52

I have this Bit at price actually - twas a gift.
DH has a BBQ one with built in hand wiping cloth

SorenLorensen · 09/02/2008 19:52

But I think I want a new one...

ecoworrier · 09/02/2008 19:53

Yep, I always wear aprons. I have some for cooking and some for mucky cleaning jobs. Always have fabric ones though, I really really hate PVC ones.

Love those Desperate housewives ones but look like you'd have to wear heels with them to pull it off

I always wear one if I'm making anything with tomato in because it always splashes at some point and it's a nightmare to get out of clothes.

SorenLorensen · 09/02/2008 20:04

You would need fluffy, high heeled mules I think and a Martini cocktail in one hand...a look I have always aspired to, if I'm honest.

Bluestocking · 09/02/2008 20:06

KM, that's why you need sleeve protectors, preferably to match your apron.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/02/2008 20:10

I have a boring dark green cotton one which I wear sometimes, but always for pastry.

expatinscotland · 09/02/2008 20:11

I can't go into the kitchen without putting my pinny on, 'cos if I don't I'll do something messy and realise I've got my clothes dirty! I used to have a PVC one, but my Ma gave me a new washable Traidcraft one for Christmas which is great, although a little big for me, and now I'm converted to fabric - just need one to wash and one to wear now

dippydeedoo · 09/02/2008 20:16

Navy blue/white butcher's stripe, I'd have lost a lot more tops to flying fat if I didn't have it. I remember being very happy post DD when I could finally tie it at the front again, instead of at the back.

My oven gloves, on the other hand, match Chippy's apron.

JackieNo · 09/02/2008 20:26

Some interesting vintage ones here - I like the M&S ones on the third page. However, a half-apron is no good to me - I need everything covered up (so maybe I need one of the tabard ones).

JackieNo · 09/02/2008 20:27

OOoh - these are nice too.

southeastastra · 09/02/2008 20:29

no, i just wear dead scuffy clothes during the day and glam up for the evening like a proper wifey

lizziemun · 09/02/2008 20:34

Yes, but i want a new one, i had mine since i was 11yrs when schools did cooking, i am now 38yrs

mablemurple · 09/02/2008 20:38

How come so many of you only have one pinny - I have loads. It always makes me nervous when tv chefs don't wear one cos my clothes would be filthy without one!

mablemurple · 09/02/2008 20:38

And those retro pinnies are lovely, JackieNo.
