I've offered to make something for an afternoon tea. I'm not really a baker so looking for for some savoury ideas please!

Little sandwiches is what I would associate with afternoon tea. The sort you can eat in 2 bites.
Nothing too fancy.

Yes, definitely little sandwiches - cut into triangles and with the crust taken off 🙂
Fillings such as cream cheese and cucumber, hummus and red pepper...
Sausage rolls, or mini pork pies

Mini quiches (M and S may be your friend here if you want to fake it)
Fresh fruit

M&S sell 'afternoon tea' sandwich platters to order and collect in store.
Thy do the classics ie smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg and cress, cucumber etc or have other options- really tasty and so easy!

I always love a savoury scone as part of an afternoon tea something cheesy !

It's odd, but, whereas I am a fan of a sausage roll or mini quiche on a buffet lunch, or buffet at a party in the evening, I'm not keen on them being added to an afternoon tea. For me, I love the delicacy of the tiny sandwiches, before I start tucking in to the cakes and scones Smile

All that said, I do love a cheesey scone at any time of day/

When I've done it I've made little finger sandwiches, such as cucumber, smoked salmon, egg and watercress, ultra fresh bread, small cakes such as little scones and Victoria sponge, and macaroons if you like. Champagne and good tea a must. Little and light is order of the day.

Mark Mitson's Parmesan and pistachio sables

Cheese scones

Tiny delicate sausage rolls

Little tarts

The savoury parts of an afternoon tea are my favourites and the more cheese the better!

Cheese straws are easy to make with bought puff pastry, also mini sausage rolls, pesto pinwheels or similar. Cheese scones are nice too. The savoury items are the best part of an afternoon tea, it's disappointing when the only savoury items are the sandwiches.

Are you making the entire afternoon tea or just bringing a single contribution? If a contribution - I'd check with whoever is organising before bringing sandwiches or scones as those are the sort of classic bedrock of an afternoon tea and might have been specifically organised.

This Donna Hay one bowl chocolate fudge cake is pretty much foolproof and makes an incredibly rich, satisfying, fudgy cake that, in small pieces, would be amazing on an afternoon tea trolley.

Good quality shop bought macaroons are always a good choice if you don't want to bake yourself.

Thanks everyone, some lovely ideas here. No, not making the whole thing, just offered to contribute a dish.
