Supper with foodie friends

So have two couples coming over for supper at the weekend, all good cooks.

We have oysters as starter with different vinaigrettes but I keep changing my mind about main and pudding.

I was thinking of a beef and coconut curry and a lemon tart but not sure now.

Any suggestions welcomed!!

I presume no dietary needs or general fussiness?

To be honest your menu sounds great and can be done in advance which is something I look for when entertaining. Just make sure you give enough time for the beef to become really tender. What is it that you're doubting about it?

Thanks and yes no fussiness

I suppose I am just a bit indecisive and wondering if these “fit” together

wondering about perhaps a passion fruit start instead of a lemon one?

and yes will make all ahead except for rice to go with curry

Have the courage of your convictions op! It's a good menu. I would just check re: potential seafood allergies. Good luck.

MoomiMama · 30/01/2023 22:35

Oysters?? Are you sure? They are a massive pain to open!

Constellar · 30/01/2023 22:36

The oysters this lot have had before and my mate is a super shucker lol

I would want more vegetables.
Love the oysters.
What about boeuf bourguignon with gratin potatoes and a steamed leafy veg like baby spinach or kale?
Pudding could be something like pineapple in lemongrass syrup with tuiles or fine shortbread biscuits or a sable biscuit?

passion fruit start instead of a lemon one

this made me laugh, as I once made a passion fruit tart and this recipe had me strain out the seeds so it was smooth. One of my guests declared it the best lemon tart he'd ever had!

I'm not sure the menu is super cohesive - oysters and lemon tart make sense together, but the beef coconut curry (will this be Indian/Sri Lankan/Thai...?) feels like a different style of cuisine. I don't think that's bad though, dinners don't have to be themed to be good.

Constellar · 31/01/2023 22:41

Ah yes it’s the cohesion that is bothering me tbh

and lol @ the tart. Maybe I’ll just stick with lemon!!!

and good call re the veg, will add some greens on the side

this is the curry:

Sausage egg and chips.

Oyster and beef curry is a weird combination.
Can't you do all fish? A sole meunière, swordfish/tuna steaks, turmeric prawns, ...
Lemon tart is nice, or have a large fruit platter after the main followed by a chocolate based cake for coffees.

mdinbc · 31/01/2023 23:20

Can you make Indian inspired sauces for your oysters? That way you can keep the theme East Asian.

Constellar · 01/02/2023 07:41

Ok I think I’ll do a Thai yellow seafood curry for main instead!!!
