Cow's milk in cooking for an 8month old?

Hello.again. My son (8 months) loves oats and I've heard that you can start using cow's milk for cooking from 6 months old. Can anyone tell me if I could use it to make oats for breakfast? It just sounds like a lot of milk....
Thanks.

Well, I used cow's milk in cooking as soon as my DS started weaning (5 months) - porridge, custard, rice pudding etc - no problems experienced (but, I am incredibly laid back & tend to think that most of the advice about weaning babies is a load of so you may wish to seek further advice!!)

I've used cows milk for the odd breakfast for my ds (now 8 mnths) I reconned that it couldn't hurt much given the amount of fomage frais & yoghurt hes eaten without any ill effect. If I'm makeing up a porridge I still use formula though as it's easier to mix water from the kettle with porridge & milk powders than to boil up milk especially.

You can mix ready-brek with milk in the bowl and pop it in the microwave to make things easier. cow's milk is fine from six months in cooking, but just don't make it the main drink until your ds is a year, is, I believe, the current advice.

Definately OK for cooking.

Thanks all for that. He'll have oats for breakfast tomorrow!

aloha - I keep forgetting that the rest of the world has microwaves - I'm just a bit backward with kitchen technology

Janeway, I'm suffering from severe kitchen envy myself after reading about sofiaames's fantastic stuff on the fridge thread!

I did the same as Aloha with either ready-brek or Quaker oats. Also by 8 months DS was having weetabix with warm cows milk at nursery.
