I seem to like this stuff. Is it actually in any way good for you?

And how the hell do you say its name?

Roy Bos

Mmm I love it too

MegaLegs · 06/02/2008 19:47

Is it the same as red bush - I always thought it was but never knew who to ask. like it too.

I think it's good for you as low caffeine and high anti oxidants. Might be talking out me arse though.

foxinsocks · 06/02/2008 19:48

why do you want to namechange for it?

is there something I'm missing ?

The vanilla version is especially nice, I find.

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 19:51

I like it normal tea gives me headaches this one is just tasty and keeps me off coffee during the day which is a bonus

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2008 20:05

I'm forrin, like, so I Don't Drink Tea. (I also Don't Listen to the Archers.)

So drinking tea is something to be ashamed of.

isaidno · 06/02/2008 20:06

I love it.

wheelybug · 06/02/2008 20:07

I call it redbush !! I love the stuff too and so many different types - normal, with vanilla, earl grey etc...

Think you're ok in liking this tea even being forin because its not really an English tea IYSWIM.

policywonk · 06/02/2008 20:07

Very nice. Also fuels Mma Ramotswe of the Ladies No 1 Detective Agency.

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 20:08

am foreign too drink far too much coffee trying to wean off roiboos seems acceptable alternative to 'a cuppa'

I find the Archers strangely fascinating

sfxmum · 06/02/2008 20:09

and that barely makes any sense oh whatever it is lovely tasty

Madlentileater · 06/02/2008 20:55

I tried it once and hated it-it's NOT proper tea (pause for punchline)the only people I've known who liked it grew up in S Africa,so I thought maybe it was like marmite? you have to be exposed at a young age?- tis free of caffeine and tannin tho...
and I d listen to the Archers!

foxinsocks · 06/02/2008 20:56

yes, we were given it at school in SA!

NotQuiteCockney · 06/02/2008 20:57

Ah, see it tastes a bit like normal tea, but I like the lack of tannin, and definately the lack of caffeine.

I'm not south african!

Unfitmother · 06/02/2008 20:58

You either love it or hate it!

Must be getting more popular as when I first starting drinking it only Tescos stocked Red bush but now most supermarkets will have a couple of brands.

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2008 20:59

ooooh it's lovely

you never told me I was meant to be ashamed of it?

the SAs I know seem to add a very little sh sound on the end so it is sort of Roybos(ch)

I can't say it like them, though

anyway it has scads of health benefits and cures cancer or something

link to follow

Gingerbear · 06/02/2008 20:59

I have just bought some of the Tetley version - I like it. Can't stop saying "Rooibos" in a faux South African accent.

You need to let it brew for at least 5 mins to get a good strong cuppa (I like Yorkshire tea too)

Fauve · 06/02/2008 21:00

Is it positively good for you, though? I've been thinking of forcing it on my children.

yogabird · 06/02/2008 21:01

vanilla version is vile imho but we drink it here all the time even the yogachicks consume it daily. Antioxidant heaven! Drink it neat

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2008 21:01

can't find the one I wanted
anyone notice Guardian archive search has gone shite recently?

CarGirl · 06/02/2008 21:03

I don't like tea but love drinking v weak red bush - can get a bag to make about 5 cups!

Lazycow · 06/02/2008 21:06

Not real tea all so no worries about being seen as a 'tea drinker' lol at tea drinking being something to be ashamed of.

It is also bound to be good for you as I can't stand it

Bluestocking · 06/02/2008 21:06

How can you? It is the most filthy muck.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/02/2008 07:10

Frances, it's nothing to be ashamed of, unless you are Forrin and have a Policy against Tea.

(Did I tell you a mate and I got chatted up by a couple of Brasilians in their 20s last weekend? V strange.)
