What meals do your whole family like?

Looking for inspiration! I feel like I'm in a bit of a recipe rut and wondering what other families eat (and everyone actually enjoys).

We are two adults and two primary age DCs (8 & 4)

OP posts:

Meatballs and spaghetti

Roasted veg and feta cheese

My DD is only 11m so will eat pretty much anything but favourites are:
Satay chicken
Chicken korma in the slow cooker (as above pataks paste is much better!)
Sausages
Chilli
Salmon

Roast dinners
Fish peas and potato wedges
Root vegetable cous cous
Chicken thigh tray bake
Lentil soup
Pea soup with gammon shavings
Baked spuds with beans and salad
Chicken pesto pasta
Gammon ham, cabbage, carrots and potatoes
Chilli and rice
Lamb kebabs with flat breads and salad
Chickpea casserole
Egg fried rice
Sausage and mash
Sardines on toast
Salmon teriyaki

Everyone eats broccoli, peas, sweetcorn, cabbage, carrots, parsnips, brussels sprouts, onions, cucumber, peppers, green beans, lettuce, spring onions, potatoes, rice, red lentils and chick peas

I wish everyone would eat tomatoes, mushrooms, courgettes, diary products and pasta but they are off the list!

I am jealous of the length of these lists.

While my youngest DC is now over 20, and can largely self cater, the list of things that they will eat is painfully limited (and therefore the rest of us are for family meals).

Broadly speaking, nothing with sauce is acceptable, so no stews, curries, pasta sauces, etc, etc. almost no type of vegetable, no baked puddings 🙄

This is what my family (kids 5 and 7) will generally eat with little grumbling (and I can hide a surprising amount of finely diced healthy food in😁):

-pasta with pesto/spaghetti bolognese/lasagne
-chilli con carne
-roast dinner with carrots, peas, broccoli, Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes. Chicken burgers substituted for roast chicken for the kids.

-pizza and garlic bread
-mild curry for the kids (added spice for adults)
-cottage pie

-I sometimes serve a fruit platter alongside these meals because my kids prefer fruit to veg.

-Also, I occasionally provide bread with hidden veg/cheese/fruit/nuts/protein baked in it because they LOVE carbs!

Would like more variety but, this is quite a big list compared to a few years ago so, I think they're getting less fussy and more adventurous!🤞🤞🤞

pizza, chips

I was going to say the same, except I've got one who doesn't even like bloody pizza! :P
I can count on one hand the amount of meals they both like... both fussy little buggers!
Fajitas
Roast (without the meat)
Meatballs and spaghetti
Sausage and Mash
Nuggets and chips
Paella

ok 1 hand and a finger :P

At that age, hardly anything so we used to eat separately during the week and eat what we all liked at the weekends, so pasta bake, pizza, fish & chips etc.

Now they are 13 and 17 they will eat whatever we do, Risotto, curry, any sort of meat, ramen etc

Maddy70 · 25/05/2023 10:32

Spag bol
Fajitas
Chillis
Stir frys
Currys

If you shop at Tesco Sainsbury's or Waitrose (other supermarkets may do similar offerings) you can pick up free magazines every month which always have plenty of recipes inside. These are by tills or in cages near exits.
I can highly recommend looking at and subscribing (free) to YouTube websites such as Butler's Empire, a family friendly vlog which shows you meals cooked in various ways, air fryer included, and they give you meat free, keto and low carb options including costs, where they buy the ingredients, all done in their own kitchens (they have a big house and big family)
some vlogs are about holidays and other stuff but you can easily find the food vlogs.
There are numerous vlogs including Jamie Oliver's so you're bound to get all the inspiration you need including the ingredients and method, none of them are big cooking fests, just normal family meals.
