sniff em

LilRedWG · 04/02/2008 10:53

As long as they smell okay and you cook them really thoroughly they should be fine.

fishie · 04/02/2008 10:54

best before or use by? actually unless they'd gone green and smelly i'd use them anyway. but they might still be in date.

knat · 04/02/2008 10:58

If they smell fine they should be fine to eat.

I would.

fryalot · 04/02/2008 11:00

If they are icky slimey and smelly chuck them.

If they look ok, feel ok, smell ok they probably are ok.

Especially if it is a Best before date or a Sell By date.

Wisteria · 04/02/2008 11:04

knat - they will be fine. Things are only off in our house when they smell off (and even then if it's just a bit whiffy I reckon they're usually ok for casseroling)....

knat · 04/02/2008 11:06

thanks everyone - they seem to be normal texture etc so ill just cook them really well. As far as smell when you peel back the film you dont keel over so i think they're ok1!!

Momma - ok urgent may have been a bit strong!!!!

Wash them first if you're at all concerned. That's what I do anyway, unless they stink of course

meridian · 04/02/2008 12:43

they should be fine.. sell by dates are there to cover chain store asses... nearly everything is good after the sell by date.. I mean have you ever worried about that apple in the fruit bowl?

as long as its been cooked well it will be fine. I'f you are really paranoid I would say to rinse it then cut it into small pieces before frying it at a high temperature.. a stirfry or something... but one day makes no diffrence...

Wisteria · 04/02/2008 13:07

Yes meridian, that's true (hellloooo - shouts over Golden Valley ), I wonder how on earth we coped before Mr Sainsbury invented packaging!!?
