Milk free yorkshires

marmitedoughnut · 31/12/2022 15:57

Got somebody coming to dinner tomorrow who is lactose intolerant and we're having beef - they've been before and I made yorkshires with flour, water and some olive oil, they rose ok and tbh wasn't too bad but seemed lacking in something.

Is there another way or method?

Yes, you can use most milk alternatives. Oat, almond, coconut (carton not tin), soya. Personally I usually do 50/50 dairy so couldn't say which makes the fluffiest. But Ive found oat milk to be most like milk for consistency.

Too late for today, but I make them exactly like normal ones but with Oatly Barista rather than normal dairy milk. The barista one works best due to the higher fat content. In fact if I have any dairy free cream (the Elmlea one is great) I use some of that in with the milk and it works even better.

You can buy lactose free milk from most supermarkets and use that instead. DD1 is lactose intolerant and I buy the milk from Aldi or Lidl and replace normal milk with this.

I use soya milk when I run out of dairy, no difference at all

I have used oat milk in the past, turned out fine

I use coconut milk and think they are far better than when I use cow's milk!
