In need of inspiration, we're staying in so keen to have something nice to eat for dinner on NYE.

What are you planning on having please?

Raclette. It's family tradition now and my teens would not accept any different. Luckily Lidl had raclette grills this year so I was able to replace our ancient one from the 80s 🙂

This risotto

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/12/2022 09:16

Champagne.

followed by whatever is in the freezer ( bored with meal planning now).

17CherryTreeLane · 28/12/2022 19:37

We have friends coming for dinner, thinking about going venison braised in Guinness and port, with lots of mash

IET · 28/12/2022 19:38

I might make a big, wintery pie and have it with buttered green veg.

Or we'll maybe order takeaway

OatFox · 28/12/2022 19:41

We've ordered an M&S meal deal with paella, green veg, chocolate bombs and some Belgian chocolates for us and some pizza and sides for the kids. I've got a lovely bottle of champagne and a solid red wine and DH has some nice new whisky so we'll be very happy 😃

yaflouloci · 29/12/2022 09:27

Beef pho
Vietnamese spring rolls

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/12/2022 09:35

Hopefully sweet and sour king prawn balls from the local takeaway, if I have my way.

And do everything possible to avoid Jools sodding Holland!!

ifonly4 · 29/12/2022 09:38

We've got indian savouries in freezer to use up so are cheating and getting Tesco finest curries - DH on call so can't use cook and eat, would have to be something that keep. Also, I'm working early NYD so if he isn't around, I'll get on and eat mine. Might have a glass of something with it!

Never the hootenanny

Hobbesmanc · 29/12/2022 09:46

It's going to need to involve cheese!

mondaytosunday · 29/12/2022 09:50

We used to do a roast beef dinner, getting a really good cut of meat. But it just my daughter and me, so a normal dinner or perhaps a takeaway.

Startuplife · 29/12/2022 09:54

M&S party food. We’re celebrating early by going into London for a lovely lunch so will come home around 6 and play games with some nibbles. We also have our last guests arriving tonight so after they leave tomorrow I’m avoiding properly cooking for as long as possible.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/12/2022 10:47

We're (hopefully as plans could change) feeding seven people so it will just be trays of party food from wherever has them still available tomorrow.

NoDairyNoProblem · 29/12/2022 10:52

We were supposed to be having another family come to stay but they have covid as of yesterday. We are taking them some shopping today as no family nearby and have just booked a nice local restaurant for dinner on NYE with the DC’s.

Hidingawaytoday · 29/12/2022 11:56

We always get a takeaway. Think we're going for an Indian this year from the lovely restaurant down the road.

Rosio · 29/12/2022 13:29

Chinese takeaway, going to order it early and reheat later after kids are in bed as takeaway will be very busy later on and we'd be waiting hours. We will be watching hootenanny! And have a bottle of wine too

SnowAndIceLobelia · 29/12/2022 13:31

Well DH just surprised me with the idea of going to the pub. (he does not drink, and we have youngish DCs and rarely go anywhere at night). So i expect a Chinese takeaway and pizzas for the DCs which for me sounds about perfect because I am really over sorting meals now.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/12/2022 13:33

Just me, DH and DD(13) on NYE.

We are doing a bit of a running buffet with a charcuterie board with cheese, grapes, meats, crackers and pate, then more kid friendly stuff like chicken wings, potato skins, chilli cheese bites etc. will probably crack open a tin of quality street at some point.

Margo34 · 30/12/2022 21:58

We usually have very expensive steaks, medium-rare, with dauphinoise potatoes, garlic/cream cheese spinach&mushrooms, griddled tomato and chimichurri, with a cocktail and a bottle of wine and some champagne!

But I'm pregnant this year so most of that's out.

Instead we are having burrata, harrissa and slow cooked tomatoes starter then silk road style cumin lamb, and some sort of lazy pudding pot.

AlisonDonut · 30/12/2022 22:01

It is a Saturday which is curry day. I made a large one last weekend so I'll defrost that, make nans with the leftover dough from todays pizza and do rice, and we have onion bahjees in the freezer and lime pickle in the fridge. Love Saturdays.

And the forecast here tomorrow is 17 degrees C. Wahoo.

Sharpkat · 30/12/2022 22:03

Mum and step dad coming over here.

Red pepper and tomato soup with seeded rolls
Salmon glazed with lime and honey with roasted vegetables, new potatoes and tender stem broccoli
Lemon syllabub or gooseberry fool
Cheese
Coffee and mince pies and Xmas cake

ODFOx · 01/01/2023 02:11

We had slow cooked lamb in a Moroccan inspired sauce with dates and prunes in with flatbreads and herby couscous. Served with a zatar roasted cauliflower, whipped feta, tzatziki, houmous, baba ganoush and salad.

Pudding was pears poached in mulled wine with ice cream, and rum babas.
I had the luxury of good friends visiting and a whole afternoon to potter in the kitchen so made lots of little bits. It was a lovely evening.

CallieQ · 01/01/2023 02:14

Fillet steak
Champagne
