Was DD's fish pie SAFE??

have just had a row with DH about this: we made a fish pie on Fri, in fridge until Sat night, DD had a portion then we forgot to put it back in the fridge again. (It was in a cold kitchen, not reheated, nowhere near a source of heat). I reheated it for her lunch today and was accused of being - well, a bit crap. So - am I? Would you chuck it all out OR chuck it at DH?

eat it cold?

suzywong · 03/02/2008 15:08

tell dh to GFH

although if her head falls off later tonight in which case you will have to retract your statement

HTH

MamaG · 03/02/2008 15:08

LMAO at suzywong

soapbox · 03/02/2008 15:09

Not with fish - i'd have thrown it out.

However as long as you completely nuked it I imagine she'll be fine

Mercy · 03/02/2008 15:09

What sort of fish was in it?

I should think anything except prawns would be fine (but I get bit paranoid abut prawns for some odd reason)

morningpaper · 03/02/2008 15:09

NEVER eat fish pie cold

I learnt that after doing it while drunk and I had to take 4 weeks off work

I DID lose loads of weight though...

cupsoftea · 03/02/2008 15:10

not eaven it cooked first mp?

morningpaper · 03/02/2008 15:10

I'm assuming you did indeed nuke it

yes what kind of fish

if it was tuna or cod then ok

if scallops then I would clear a space and put down some plastic sheeting

ivykaty44 · 03/02/2008 15:10

regulations would be 4 hours for food to be left out - I would not have any problem with food in this weather being left out and then reheating it well (till it is bubbling)

If it was on a hot summers day I would have a problem with this and probably chuck it.

cupsoftea · 03/02/2008 15:10

lol - not even if cooked first

morningpaper · 03/02/2008 15:11

no cup of tea

very bad indeed

there was scallops involved though, and prawns too

milkmoustache · 03/02/2008 15:11

Fish was haddock and a bit of coley... and maybe a prawn or two!! Oh great. And I told DH if I was proved wrong I would do all the cleaning up.

I probably would have thrown it away if it had been left out overnight but I'm sure it would be fine if you re-heated it properly.

cupsoftea · 03/02/2008 15:12

shame - sometimes things taste yum when cold the next day

morningpaper · 03/02/2008 15:12

prawns

well good luck then

was it PIPING PIPING HOT?

suzywong · 03/02/2008 15:14

bloody hell you lot are such scaremongers

it's not the act of being Fish Pie in itself which caused all this heaving, the damage would have been done to the bivavle/crustaecous ingredients BEFORE composing the fish pie(s), probably on the way home from the fishmongers' or between the wholesaleser and the fishmonger's til.

YOuwould have to be an absolute slovern and eejit of the first order to mess up fish pie left out in this or should I say your weather. Mind youwe've had an average temp of 35 degrees with 45 degrees on xmas day for the last month.

soapbox · 03/02/2008 15:15

Definitely not with prawns, I'm afraid.

Hopefullt it was nuked to death and your kitchen is baltic

soapbox · 03/02/2008 15:17

Nah Susy - all that white sauce, mash and fish is a bacterial breeding ground.

I wouldn't risk it, myself!

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 15:18

how old is your DD?

morningpaper · 03/02/2008 15:19

Speaking as a person who indulged in cold fish pie after my 10 friends had eaten it hot, and had to take 4 weeks off work, I think that there are Dark Forces at work in fish pie of which we know very little...

suzywong · 03/02/2008 15:19

mash?
white sauce?
are you using unpasteurised milk and mealy potatoes?

suzywong · 03/02/2008 15:20

you must have had a Bad Pint MP

hunkermunker · 03/02/2008 15:21

I think, MM, the answer here is "time will tell"...

hunkermunker · 03/02/2008 19:21

How is she?

Wilkie · 03/02/2008 19:24

Personally I wouldn't have risked it.

How old is she and how is she?
