Basil winter storage solution

.... in the airing cupboard Grin

Bought cut basil from sainsburys on Thursday am and wasn't sure where to store until today as even with heating on and a good use by date I knew it would get too cold overnight in kitchen.

So put it unopened into the airing cupboard and have just got it.

Looks, smells and tastes lovely 😊

Glad it survived, it's my favourite herb.
I keep a pot in the kitchen, & pick the biggest leaves first.
It keeps growing, but the leaves get smaller. They generally last about 2 months, so work out cheaper as well as more convenient than the packets.

Not sure if it would work with basil but have had success with fresh parsley: scrunch/ roll tightly in a plastic bag and put in freezer. Then you can just snip straight into what you are cooking.

Have also frozen fresh coriander in a little olive oil too.

Oooh I'll try that with parsley for sure, thanks.

Think the cold would kill basil unfortunately

Parsley keeps forever in the fridge if it's stood in a glass of water with a plastic bag over the top. Doesn't work for basil sadly, it'll go scummy. Maybe OP is right and it's temperatures.
