Carrot Cake - a flour question

My Carrot Cake recipes all use wholemeal flour, I only have normal (white) flour. Will it still be fine with that?
TIA

I only ever use plain white. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Tommy · 02/02/2008 16:56

will be fine - I'm sure they always put wholemeal flour on carrot cake to further the scam that you are eating something healthy when you are, in fact, still eating cake

MissCreant · 02/02/2008 16:57

I've used both and I prefer it with white flour

rosybud · 02/02/2008 16:58

Tommy you are probably right.

Obviously carrot (veg) and wholemeal (healthy) = nutritious.

Works for me

Tommy - it's funny isn't it, the addition of bit of grated carrot and sultana and it seems to cancel out the cakiness of it. Flapacks too, I always pretend these are good for me.

oh yes - flapjacks - just like porridge really

Mind you, after DS3 was born I was eating Cadubury Fruit & Nut like it was going out of fashion - claiming one of my 5 a day and protein. What more could you want?

I make a courgette cake... bread whatever.. its basically the same as a carrot cake.. little flecks of green instead of orange.. i just use whatever flour is in the house though, which is normally white.

there is this one at recipezaar

courgette cake

2 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup oil (i normally use 1/2 cup butter melted and a half cup milk as I don't like oil)
2 cups zucchini, grated
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup nuts (optional)
3 teaspoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients.
Pour into two greased loaf pans.
Bake for one hour.
