god .. I do know something but can't think what it is

will think hard and return

allgonebellyup · 01/02/2008 18:22

i always find they are caused by too much sugar in the diet..could this be the case?

Twiglett · 01/02/2008 18:23

think it wsa camomile tea

also some kind of licorice (but not normal licorice)

If you didn't mind using a more chemist-y solution, there's brilliant stuff you can get from Boots etc called adcortyl. I've just looked it up on line and you can use it on children as well as adults - just says don't use for longer than five days. It's a cream but as soon as you put it on the ulcer it turns into a weirdy cake-like consistency, like a hard paste IFKWIM...thing is, it's always always cleared my ulcers up overnight. It might freak her out a little bit, but maybe if you put it on last thing before she goes to sleep she wouldn't notice it so much...

are you giving her continuous calpol? ulcers hurt

Daisymoo · 01/02/2008 18:38

Are you sure it's not oral thrush? That can cause little white spots in the mouth and be quite painful.

has she got any spots on her hands/feet/bottom?

it could be hand foot and mouth virus - that causes mouth ulcers and is very common.

Rinsing with salt water clears them up, but not sure if your lo will be able to rinse and spit??

no spots anywhere else, doesn't have much sugar in her diet other than that found naturally. i haven't been giving her calpol reg but will

ask at your health store for Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (this has been clinically proven to be helpful in healing mouth ulcers) .. look it up on google if you want

well personally I'd go in and say "ummm you know that licorice that's good for mouth ulcers .. d something or other .. you got any please?"

I think they call it DCL

madame · 01/02/2008 20:45

Thank you all, I gave the calpol and she was a differnt child after half an hour, just managed to get some baby bongella on and she seems alot happier.

I have looked at them and they do seem to have a white appearnce to them. Do I need tp take her to the GP for that or can I get something off prescription

If it's thrush she will probably need an antifungal mouth gel. It's tricky because mouth ulcers can be yellowy-white too! You could try taking her to the pharmacist to see what they think and antifungal oral gel can be bought over the counter so you wouldn't need a prescription. You could also try some bio yogurt.

thank you
