Fish recipes for people who don't like fish

I need to get healthier and people always say eat more fish so looking for some nice recipes.

The issue is I don't really like fish. I find it a bit bland, don't like picking out the small bones etc. I can eat it just don't love it so am not very adventurous so usually have salmon, cod or sole. And an added complication is one of my kids has a shellfish allergy so can't eat things I do like like prawns.

I guess I am looking for fish recipes that aren't focused on the fish? Zingy sauces or something or curries but where the fish holds its shape. Any ideas?

Loads of south Indian fish curries that taste more of curry than fish. You can use white or oily fish. I like tomato based ones but there are coconut type ones too.

If you're doing it for health, oily fish is more nutritious, do you like smoked mackerel or salmon fillets, the shrink wrapped ones? Never any bones but you might have to pick the skin off.

If by healthier you mean thinner, I think you'd be better off with tofu or lean meat, something you do like. Fish isn't that cheap!

Tuna isn’t bland and I’ve never found a bone in a tin of tuna. Also, if you like firm fish and hate bones, I’d definitely try monkfish.
I really like Thai flavours, so one of my favourite fish dishes is red fish curry
I make fish tacos a lot. You could cheat and use Old El Paso. Nigella also has a good recipe.
The DC’s favourite fish recipe is Pesto salmon pasta bake. They also like fish burgers.

I love fish - One of my favorite recipies is... Hake (or cod but its more expensive) steaks poached in the oven then covered in a sauce made on the hob.
Sauce is Shallots and Garlic fried in a little olive oil, Add big double handfull of halved cherry tomatos. Cook for 5 mins - Then add a glass of white wine - cook again for 5 mins. Add black pepper and a teaspoon of sugar and the juice of a small lemon. Then just before serving add a big handfull of chopped basil and the zest from the lemon.
I normally just have this will brocolli.
It is yummy! And pretty healthy!!

I didn't like the idea of fish except fish fingers however I tried swordfish once and loved it. I now eat it as well as sea bass, trout. Salmon and tuna. I eat it when I'm out as I don't trust myself cooking it. Sorry not much help.

Thanks for these. Am making notes. I don't think I have ever tried mackerel and hake. I do occasionally have a tuna mayo sandwich but never had fresh tuna.

Rub some tikka paste into bass fillets and fry them (skin side down first to crisp it up) - delicious.

Cod baked in the oven with some kind of spicy tomato sauce over and maybe some olives chucked in, is also good.

Tinned salmon and mashed potato formed into a fish cake. Have with some spicy relish and green salad.

I’m also partial to tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce, or just in sunflower oil. I eat it directly from the tin because I’m gross.

Peppered, smoked mackerel is good too - although there are bones. Makes great pâté, but not sure how healthy that is, especially how I have it on doorstep toast with lots of butter.

If you can afford to go to the fish monger and get suggestions of what to try and how to cook it, you’re sure to find something you like.

Fresh seared tuna with salsa verde is food of the gods!

Steamed seabass with chili, ginger, fish sauce and lime juice.

Smoked mackerel pate

Tandoori salmon

Cod with chorizo

Cerviche

Mmmmmmmmmm

This is lovely. I just use a jar of pesto.

I'm not convinced eating more fish makes you healthier? Especially if you don't like fish!
There are other avenues that won't be so stressful for you. Cutting down on processed food, red meat, salt etc doesn't necessarily involve eating food you don't like.

Swordfish is delicious and no small bones. Quite meaty too.

Smoked haddock or cod chowder
Kedgeree
And white fish fillet dredged in flour, fried and served with potatoes and green veg
Salmon roasted in oven with mixture of veg
Fish pie
Pasta with tuna

I agree and am trying them too but we eat mainly red meat because my husband prefers it and isn't a fan of chicken although he said he would eat more fish. He won't eat many Vege meals that aren't pasta in a sauce so just going to suggest some fish recipes.

What about making some fishcakes, you can choose what fish to use and add herbs and spices to ramp up the flavour. If you enjoy Thai flavours have a look at some Thai fish cake recipes (avoid ones with shell fish obviously but even the ones with a mix of shell fish and white fish are just as good with white fish alone.)
For a low cost fish cake use tinned tuna with sweet potato and chilli. Delicious.
We also enjoy cod fillets marinated in a mix of natural yoghurt and tandoori paste baked in oven then a few minute before it's cooked remove from oven, spread a dollop of mango chutney on each fillet and finish under the grill until nicely caramelised.
