Natto and umeboshi

I want to try natto and umeboshi but I can't find them in the shops around here (deepest Home Counties).

Can anybody recommend an online retailer, or a brand to look out for online?

www.japancentre.com/en might meet your needs. A little on the expensive side though.

😳 I didn't realise I have such expensive tastes.

Have to say that I was desperate to try Natto, my (now) husband got some delivered, in chilled packaging.
And it was the MOST revolting thing we have EVER eaten.
And you couldn't get the slime off your mouth, it was truly horrendous.

And you might be able to find plum seasoning if you want a taste of the umeboshi without the actual salted plums, it's cheaper. Clear Spring make a vinegar and I bought it from Amazon. "Clearspring Organic Japanese Ume Plum Seasoning" but it's out of stock at the moment.

Natto is nasty (but umeboshi delicious). But if you really want to, I used to buy from mountfuji.co.uk although a quick look at their website suggests they have downscaled significantly. Or the japan centre as recommended above.

Clearspring does jars of whole umeboshi as well as umeboshi-flavoured things. Widely available in whole food/organic shops.

I find natto in the freezer section at various Chinese and Korean supermarkets near me, but otherwise Japan Centre is a good (though more expensive) bet.

Natto on its own is a bit challenging to start with in terms of flavour and texture, but it works really well in sushi rolls. I used to do them for DD's school packed lunch.

You can also get umeboshi on Amazon. It's £££ but postage is free.

Blimey. I used to be chuffed if my mum gave me a KitKat.
