I'd keep it really simple and quick to start with. Teaching DS to cook, he definitely goes for things that reach his stomach faster. 😀

Omelettes - with ham, cheese etc
Bacon, tomato & garlic sauce with pasta
Baked peppers stuffed with sausage meat
A good veggie & bacon soup
Chicken curry using a korma pot to begin with.
Salmon tray bake
Sausage and mash

Plus oven chips, rice, plenty of chunky brown bread, garlic bread
And a fruit bowl.

He'll survive and he won't get scurvy or rickets. 😁

Hey!! My lot are all under 7 and they love my simple meals!

Pesto pasta is really quick and easy, just cook wholewheat pasta, and add haved cherry tomatoes, tofu or chicken, mozarella, olives or whatever they like!

Veggie noodles are always a hit (boil ramen + add sauteed veg, pureed garlic and halved eggs)

Shakshouka! Fry off diced onions & carrots, add a tube of tomato puree and cook off then add a lint of boiling water and meat, then cook for 45mins or longer depending on the meat.

Got lots more ideas if u like :)

Oh they will if they know there's A Man in need,

True, some posters are positively falling over themselves

Think of what you would like to eat. Google 'what you would like to eat' and add recipe. Repeat until you find something you are confident to cook and would like to eat

Rinse and repeat.

Go on TikTok and search for the feta cheese pasta bake. The Australian woman who did it first (or near to first) has loads of good and very easy recipes, then from there the algorithm will give you loads of similar videos. My teenager has learned to cook several fantastic meals this way.

Do you know how to cook at all op?
it’s fine your a man.I’m sorry you find yourself on your own now and stuck.
if you have some basic recipe or food knowledge it won’t be long before you have a few good basic meals under your belt.
google here is very much your friend.what’s also good is to actually search and then click images.this way you get to see what the particular sites recipes looks like and then can click in.
do you have any cooking ability though?

MrsKippling · 17/11/2022 19:42

Hi OP, I'd recommend joining a group on Facebook if you have an account. I'm an a very helpful one called Food Lovers Forum where you'd get plenty of help from people with varying cooking abilities. I also like this website for really basic frugal recipes and you can't go wrong with BBC Goodfood. I agree with previous posters that you would be best batch cooking and freezing meals. Do you have a slow cooker? That could make things easier for you?

It's difficult suddenly being on your own in your 70s if you haven't been used to cooking. It's never too late to learn though! I agree with the recommendations of Jamie's Ministry of Food - it's pretty much designed for you Smile

catinboots123 · 18/11/2022 11:45

Why are people so nasty on here.

OP the BBC food website is brilliant for basics. Also the Delia Smith How to Cook series is perfect for beginners.

I'm sorry you've found yourself on your own but I'm sure you can tackle this. It will be fun!

Come back and let us know how you get on Smile

FloydPepper · 18/11/2022 12:39

Yep. Ignore the more grumpy posters mate.

agree, the bbc site is pretty good so why not just fling yourself into it and let us know how it goes. There’ll be some disasters along the way but that’s ok😀
