Christmas cake cooking times

I made 2 cakes yesterday, I was busy doing loads of other things at the same time and have just realised that my second cake was only in the oven for about 1.5 hours (oops).

I’m new enough to baking Christmas cakes so I’m now wondering should I and can I put it back in the oven for a while? The skewer came out clean and it looks cooked but surely that’s too quick??

Depends on how big the cake is, what temp the oven was and if it is a traditional fruit cake or a lighter one!

It’s a traditional cake, the recipe says bake for 3-3.5 hours and it’s a 6 inch round tin

Cooking times for Christmas cakes seem way over, probably because older ovens weren't as efficient.

That cake looks cooked, and you say it has passed the skewer test, so that's all that matters. Don't put it back in, you'll ruin it.

Plus, you're going to feed it with brandy, aren't you, which will kill off any non existent risk of food poisoning anyway.

@BarbaraofSeville thanks, I think I’ll risk it!

The skewer test is king here, if it felt cooked it'll be fine.
