DS is having a cooking party

for his 9th birthday. So far I have planned for them to make pizzas from scratch (using pizza dough mix), fizzy fruit punch, iced glittery biscuits (will make biscuits in advance they just have to ice them) and ice-cream sundaes. The biscuits are to take home in lieu of party bag.

Am worried this is not going to be enough to fill 2 hours of party time. Anyone else got any experience or helpful suggestions please?

Other recipe ideas? Preferably not for hot food as I am going to have a job fitting 15 pizzas in the oven as it is.

Thanks!

excellent idea ! might not take up al;l the 2 hours though, I remember ds having a ceramics painting party for his 7th, some kids were quicker/ not as able to concentrate and got a bit restless..maybe think of a game, treasure hunt perhaps as a standby ?

was going to put "sounds great" until I saw that you had 15 children

Now I'm going to put:

Are you mad?!

Think if it is a cooking party, it sounds about right

Have also got some aprons for them to decorate with fabric pens, do you think that will do it?

Yes I am mad, I bowed to pressure from ds and was hoping we would have lots of refusals but haven't had a single one! We will have 2 groups 1 round kitchen worktop and 1 round dining table the 2 rooms are interconnected so hopefully will be OK.

bogie · 28/01/2008 17:29

Sound's so much fun am i invited
No recipie ideas i think you will have enough to fill 2 hours

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/01/2008 17:33

apron thing sounds great - or cooking quiz as Tommy suggested...make sure you get them all to clear up/wash up because that's part of cooking too !

sophy · 28/01/2008 17:33

Treasure hunt bit risky with weather but like the cooking quiz idea to have on standby if needed - thanks tommy

have recently had a party for 18 6 year olds because we thought that some wouldn't turn up - they all did

How big are the pizzas going to be? I did this for DD a few years back and I premade the bases, so that they just had to do the topping. Once they had all been made, I slung them all in the oven and put a DVD on. They ate popcorn until they were ready, then had the pizzas whilst watching the DVD. Job done!

Hmm.. I think there may be some time problems here, and you need some fillers.

It should work well if well-managed. Hope you've got plenty of help!
What I would do (to spin it out but also to improve the quality of the finished product) is to produce a 'worksheet' for them with an ice-cream sundae dish and a list or pictures of all the ingredients. (include loads - diff flavours, plus cream, plus 4 diff sauces, 3 different toppings - hundreds/thousands, jelly tots, choc buttons, etc., plus 4 diff. sorts of chopped fruit ...)

Then they have to design their ice cream sundae first and draw it. Then after they've made it, they have to get at least one other person to evaluate it on appearance and taste.

You could also get them to give the pizzas marks out of 10 too, with a prize for the winner.

Could you print out a copy of the recipe/instructions for them to decorate to take home with them as a memento?

PandaG · 28/01/2008 18:22

agree with Roisin - think designing the sundae first is a really good idea

also think a cooking quiz would work well - maybe some name the ingredients of simple dishes, pics of TV chefs to name, name 3 veg beginning with a particular letter, or a list of ingredients on beginning with each letter of the alphabet?

There are some great ideas here -- thanks all.

Please keep them coming.

how about a blind taste test - put a blindfold on them and get them to taste different flavours and smell different foods and have a prize for the person who identifies the most
