Easy lunchbox snacks with less plastic waste

i’m overly dependent on prepacked snacks for lunchboxes (babybel, mini malt loaves, crisps, yogurts etc) that involve lots of wrapping and waste.

I occasionally do things like homemade flapjacks etc but realistically I don’t have the time or energy most of the time - it’s normally a case of flinging a few things in a lunchbox in a mad morning rush.

Any suggestions for snack which are super easy for filling a lunchbox that don’t involve quite as much disposable packaging?

If you get a lunchbox with sections you can give them a slice of cake or cheese or a biscuit from a packet.

How old is your child? I used to make mine put their own stuff in.

Boiled eggs.
Generally hack a bit of cheese off a big block and put it in little tupperware.
Make a load of popcorn and decant into little Tupperware.

Basically you need a load of tiny annoying tupperware. Most of ours has Octonauts or Paw Patrol on it cos Asda had loads of cheap stuff at some point, but the big kids don’t actually seem bothered by the deep lack of cool.

Get a set of beeswax wraps and buy a soreen loaf. Cut it each day and wrap with the beeswax wrap.

Or as a PP says, small tupperware for cheese chunks and broken breadsticks, and other bits.

My DS (3) has a Smiggle bento box style lunch box.

He likes the sections and that way I don't have to leave stuff in the wrappers.

I make little chocolates sometimes for him as we have a few moulds.

Bigger bags of raisins etc are good for those style lunch boxes.

Breadsticks, crackers and cheese, fruit, decanted raisins into small pots, home made popcorn, slices of cucumber, cherry tomatoes/ veg.

Sadly most of this is wrapped in plastic in shops, but at least not small plastic inside large plastic

Alongside a sandwich add small tubs or compartments of: cherry toms, cheddar or Red Leicester cut into Lego sized blocks (‘cheese legit’), grapes, olives from a jar, chunks of cold sausage, ritz type bics from a big packet, felafels, whatever you have and your kids like. IME / IMO packed lunches don’t need to be sophisticated or especially varied. Sandwiches, banana, snack,

Stop buying small or individual items and buy whole packets or normal sized ones. And so you need tupperwares.

Instead of lots of Tupperware which might not fit into a lunchbox easy, and will rattle around inside, something like a Yumbox could well be better. Sections which are sealed and separate so you could decant yogurt from a large tub without it leaking.
